Playback issues
Strengths: Good styling, nice simple interface, light in weight
Weaknesses: Samusung YH920 GS - Not enough playback buffer leading to skipping
Summary: 2005-08-17 11:46:38 I have used the player quite well under static conditions and its a real value for the price. But when i use it while i am jogging the player skips tracks,freezes sometimes and distorts the playback rate. I guess the hardrive and it buffer memory has not been designed to well..thus its not able to deal with erratic data generated due to the continous sudden movments.

Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: This has been a great product so far. With more features and better battery life and support for almost all audio formats, this is a great buy. Samsung re-released this item, so now most/all of the previous issues have been fixed!
This MP3 player is attractive and very durable (I've dropped it a few times off my desk), has many great extras such as a radio, docking station, quality carrying case, voice recorder, ability to record from things such as TVs, computers, etc., and a remote control. The sound quality is also great and the menus are easy to navigate. Although Napster is included free for two months with the product, it requires you to enter your credit card number, which personally I'm not willing to do just for a free trial. Windows Media Player 10 suits my needs perfectly fine.
I have only found a couple of low points for this product. If you plug it into your computer, sometimes it may say "rebuilding device," but it will delete all of your songs. But, you can just use the recovery utility to fix that problem. Another slight problem is the small pause between songs. It's only about 1/10 of a second, but noticable if listening to songs that lead into another.
I reccomend this product as a great alternative to the iPod (which in my opinion is overpriced and over-hyped) with more features for less money. An overall great buy.

Strengths: Price, ease of use, qualify, sound
Weaknesses: Menu navigation, large earphones, battery life
Summary: This is the first MP3 player I have ever owned so I don't have experience with other models. What first brought me to choose this model wat the same capacity and size as the iPod for much less cost. The Samsung comes with a cradle, charger, USB cable, remote control, earphones, Napster software, line-in/out port and wire, built-in microphone and leather case with belt clip. The unit has a very bright display that is easily readable. Although navigation from one branch to another takes several clicks of the control button. The front control navigates through the menus and plays tracks with one hand, while buttons along the side and top perform pause, navigation to next and previous, record voice, and hold (to lock buttons).
Although I have not tried them, the unit also sends and receives signals via a line-in/out connector, and permits recording from voice as well as from the built-in FM tuner. The tuner does not have a strong antenna and I tend to hear static unless the station signal is very strong. The unit fits easily in my pocket even with the carrying case. The carrying case protects the unit and has a belt clip that permits some totation while being worn. The headphones are a bit larger than usual and feel a bit unfomfortable, so I may end up buying a more comfortable set.
The quality of the sound is great and downloading music is easy and fast via the Napster software. So far, I have downloaded both WMA and MP3 formats onto the player without any problems. The unit is recognized by Windows Xp even before installing the drivers. The software is not the simplest for managing music files and takes a little getting used to because the menu is not all inclusive. But I was able to download some new music as well as copy existing songs from CD's and on my PC. I downloaded all these to my player easily. I later deleted some files without any problems. I am very happy so far. with the unit and don't regret saving some money for it. Good competition.

Strengths: ease of use
Weaknesses: small print in manual
Summary: This is a well designed player and I am completely satisified with it. I would advise that you load the drivers only and forget about Napster, even though the player has napster in its title. I was warned not to load the napster program because of compatability issues, and am happy I took the advise, since media player 10 works great with this player. I charged the player and downloaded music off my cd's with great ease. You can record from FM, and it has a voice recorder. I can't imagine why anyone would pay more for a MP3 player since this one does it all. kudos

Strengths: Easy to Use, Size, Memory Amount
Weaknesses: Headphones, Frustraing Software
Summary: I had some trouble with the software that came with the player and had to go to the samsung site to update it to work with Windows Service Pack 2. Also, I had to upade my version of Napster, since I was using the version it came with. After all this it works great! I would highly reccomend this player.

Strengths: small, cheaper than Ipod and got FM tuner
Weaknesses: unreliable software
Summary: This is a great cheap MP3 player compared to the Ipod. It has 20GB of memory and cost me only $150. The software that the player uses is kind of unreliable. It has to be updated. I use it at the gym and more and it is just great.

Strengths: Size is perfect. Small enough to fit in your shirt pocket. Comes with all the accessories.
Weaknesses: Driver is not native to Windows. Napster 3.0 functionality is questionable.
Summary: 2005-02-22 21:04:55 Picked up the product on sale with $150 rebate. Great if you use Windows Media Player (WMP) to load your music. I had a terrible time getting Napster 3.0 to work. The Driver update for Napster 3.0 did not install properly and I gave up after 3 attempts. The Napster Web Page states they will release an updated Napster to Go driver that will require use of WMP 10 soon. It has voice and line-in recording fuctions. I loaded 15 GB of MP3 and WMA files and this player works great. I can connect the device to my home entertainment system and I now have access to all my digital files using a patch cord. Sweet!

Strengths: has everything you want.
Weaknesses: not so good software...
Summary: I used this unit for a couple of days now. Have not found any real problem associated with it. Sound quality is great. Capacity wise, it is big enough to hold all the music I love. FM tuner is a plus. Have not tried the recording yet. The only thing I am not very happy is the software. But it is not the major concern. So, I would recommend this player to anyone.

Strengths: Easy to use, looks good, good quality
Weaknesses: Only one playlist
Summary: I would highly suggest this player. I have used the Apple iPod, and the Samsung YH-920 is much more userfriendly. I would not suggest using the Napster to put your songs on the player. Use Windows Media Player 10 and the sync option. It is much easier. Great player, highly recommended.

Dont wast your time with this. I took it back to B ...
Strengths: Look, Weight, FM Sterio
Weaknesses: The menu does not let you do much with it, you cannot create multiple play list, you cannot see who the artist is when you are in the track list, hard to work with software
Summary: Dont wast your time with this. I took it back to Best Buy yesterday. I was never able to figure out the software because it wouldn't let me do anything. It took a long time to load a song when you get them onto the device. The menus are very complicated to where you don't know who the artist is, for example I wanted to listen to "Let It Snow" with the Christmas holiday but i have 5 different versions of it. I had to play them all to figure out which one I wanted. It was just a major let down for me.

Dont Waste Your Time
Strengths: Looks, Price
Weaknesses: Firmware, Software
Summary: Kudos to everyone who made this product work. But after owning 3 other MP3 players, there is no doubt in my mind this product is not working correctly. The software troubles simply should not be happening. Too many other makers have created seamless systems with drag and drop functionality with any windows or mac system. If you want a cheap 20mb system then get it and try it but be prepared for a world of hassle. If you have never owned an MP3 player then you wont know the difference. I suggest another item.

Strengths: Looks great;
Contains all the necessary accessories;
Sound quality good;
Light weight and small size;
Ease of use;
Cost (compared to iPod)
Weaknesses: Battery life could be improved;
Napster software (can be not used though)
Summary: Overall, this player is a great buy. The menu system is fairly easy to navigate. Dump Napster and just use Windows Media Player 10, which works fine with it. All the extra features work great also. All of the problems that the other reviewers complain about have simple workarounds. In order to fast-forward through a song, hold the> > | button. If you want to select an entire artist to play, hold the select button until an option to add the entire artist to the playlist shows up. The issue of albums playing in alphabetical order instead of track order can be remedied by either making a playlist in Napster or numbering the filenames of the mp3s as 01-artist-track.mp3. This player gets you much more for your money and is superior to other players in several aspects.

When recording voice through the built-in mic, it ...
Strengths: Good feature set. Low price. Dock, charging cables, mini line in cable, in-line remote, leather case all included. Work with Windows Media Player 9 and 10 with included driver.
Weaknesses: Battery life short; long charging time. Will NOT play CDs in track order. Cannot import playlist. Tech support does not consider this a problem and have no plan for fimrware upgrade.
Summary: When recording voice through the built-in mic, it will pick up small movement of your hand and play back as loud noises so there is no mic isolation from unit case. Tech support suggest that I rename my files with numbers or letters in front if I want to keep hearing music as it was originally intended by the artist.

After being excited about it's great looks and up ...
Strengths: Looks great, very stylish, small, light, comes with docking cradle, all cables, carry case and remote control
Weaknesses: Software drivers did not work, and had to return the player back to the shop.
Summary: After being excited about it's great looks and up to date style and Sansungs good quality, I was let down by the software. My PC runs Windows 2000 and works well, however when installing the Napster software, the drivers did not even allow my PC to pick the player up and not only that, the Napster software did not recognise any of my CD player drives. I reinstalled the software many times until I eventually gave up and returned it back to the shop.
You can have the best player in the world but it's no use if you can't load anything onto it!
It's a real shame as I'm sure if the drivers worked, the player would have been ok.
