I Set the system up with core quad q6600.ON boot the cpu error popped up.I F1 it and installed XP sp2 still the error used to come up on restart. Solution- used ASUS auto bios updater to update bios version from 030** to 0603 and DONE on next restart the system worked like charm no errors. This is a stripped down version of the delux but without wifi. I overclocked q6600 t0 3.0ghs and no problems. even after overclock no substantial rise in temp. this board is best if you want good functionality and save $$$$$$ except for the bios update problem this is very good board. 83% of People (5/6) found this review helpful. kentshi from CA Member Since: Feb 2005 View Member's: Reviews Product Experience: 3 Days	Asus P5K Strengths: Good Quality Board. Weaknesses: Ridiculous location of the IDE connector. Summary: I have been a loyal fan of ASUS motherboard for many years now, brought ASUS board in my last 3 build, and it never gave me any problems, unlike some of the brands out there. This board is still an excellent board in terms of quality, there really isn't much to say about it. I also really like the Q-Connector, it makes connecting the front panel jumpers a lot easier. Now with the bad, the locations of the IDE connector is just ridiculous. It is way at the bottom of the board, under the PCI connectors. I have two IDE CD-ROMS, and I can only connect one of them using the cable that came with the motherboard, and I have a very small case. I had to spend $10 to buy a 24" cable, and that one just barely made it. Even for that to work, I have to bunch my two PCI cards are next to the video card (can't use to bottom slot to clear space), and the IDE cable still wrap very tightly on top of the video card. I think I probably have to replace one of my IDE CD-ROMs with a SATA one, because the current configuration can't be good for the cable, video card or air flow. I also had trouble the first couple times I restarted my computer. The the screen just goes blank and never hear that "beep" sound that you usally hear, I had to power down the computer and power it back on again to fix it. I also noticed that in the first couple times I get into Windows, the screen goes funny for a second or two, with all kinds of color bands across the screen. Both problems have gone away down. Weaknesses: Anything over 1638 FSB I loose my sata drives....Ican push my cpu to 3.98 ghz but only with ide drives.. But I can handle this Summary: I run a Intel e6750 2.6 ghz O/C to 3.29 ghz. N/A Member Since: Product Experience: 4 Months	Maddeningly Frustrating Strengths: Feature set; build quality; ASUS name. Weaknesses: Doesn't work. Design flaw or quality problem. Summary: First board purchased from MWAVE was defective. Of course it took a week of testing to narrow it down to the MB. RMA'd directly to ASUS. New board arrived. Could not get OS to see the LAN port. Finally read on another bulletin board to remove plug from USB. Finally got the OS to see the LAN port. Shut down and went to restart. Fans came on but no boot. Cycled the power switch several times and it booted. Sometimes it will boot after several cycles, sometimes not. If you reset the CMOS it will boot. I'm tired of this and very disappointed in ASUS. Built another system with a Gigabyte P35 chipset with no problems. I'll probably just scrap the board and go another way. It burns me to have wasted $126! IbarraYJ Member Since: Sep 2007 View Member's: Reviews Product Experience: 4 Days	ASUS P5K 775 Socket Motherboard Strengths: Vista ready!! Copper heatsinks. Six USB ports on back bezel. Weaknesses: If you want to setup a RAID configuration you have to have an external hard drive that has eSATA. No Cool Stack! Only 4 SATA ports. Summary: This is a great motherboard that gave me NO problems setting it up. This motherboard lacks the extras its bigger brothers have, but still packs a punch. The ASUS P5K motherboard has 1333FSB so I used the Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 with 2GB 800FSB RAM and this computer runs like a champ! The only complaint I really have is that in order to setup a RAID configuration you have to have an external hard drive with eSATA and it's not an option to have all your RAID hard drives internal. I also wish these motherboards still had parallel connections because some of us out there still have prints that only have parallel! Was this review helpful or unhelpful for you? Install CPU fan/heatsink before you put board in case. Stock Heatsink/fan doesn't seat as well and third party heatsink/fans do.
