Strengths: No Vista worries. Easy portability for classroom use, notetaking. Relatively secure as-is. Good battery life.
Weaknesses: My student wanted black color, but I paid very hefty premium for the color with only 40GB additional HDD space as the only technocal difference. No coupon for upgrade to Leopard.
Summary: I'm guessing the white color was originally priced to drive traffic there by a marketing type who wanted the products to be visible and differentiated from all the other laptops out there - the only technical difference between this (black) model and the next less expensive one (white color) is a 40GB larger HDD (160 vs. 120)(but you can upgrade to a 200GB on either), which works out to about $5/GB!! Now that other makers are offering not only white but also red, blue, green, yellow, I'm guessing the black premium will disappear (just not fast enough for this student's parent!)
Clearly the seamless integration with her iTunes library also played a part in her decision, though the selling points for Dad were light weight, long battery life, and meeting her school's suggested configuration.
Since Leopard will be out in October, but students are getting laptops now, Apple should have included a coupon for free upgrade to Leopard.
