Strengths: awesome sound! great value for the money
Weaknesses: System may need reset periodically to correct video issues
Summary: Had to perform a system "reset" right out of the box in order to get video. While product customer support was very timely in response to us once we contacted them, we spent hours trying to figure out what was wrong with our setup.

Strengths: Sound clarity, Ease of set up.
Weaknesses: Very small buttons on the remote.
Summary: I purchased this unit to power a Sonance theater set-up in the basement of my new home. This unit makes the whole experience come to life. The unit controls everything feeding to the TV and does it well. The HDMI switching at this price point was hard to pass up. I highly recommend this unit and I assure you, you will not be disapointed.

Strengths: Awesome power to deliver great sound, Upconverts to HD, Good price, Auto sound set-up, 7.1 Surround
Weaknesses: Terrible Remote, Additional manual set-up might required for best sound
Summary: An excellent affordable mid-range receiver. Sound setup is working well but still needs some manual adjustments. On-screen menu is excellent for additional setup. I have 480p DVD player and HD upconvertion is working well. Main complain with this unit is remote which has lots of small buttons. However, I have Harmony universal remote so it’s no more of issue. I have attached HarmonKardon speakers and a subwoofer to it.

Strengths: Great value Classic HK sound
Weaknesses: Remote could use some re-work
Summary: Purchased the AVR 247 after looking at several other more expensive HT receivers. Compared all the features, and found the AVR 247 to have the same features, and then some, as receivers that cost several hundred dollars more. Normally I get upgraditis rel quick when it comes to electronic components, but not with the AVR 247. We love it.

Strengths: Loads of inputs easy to set up Alternate channel mode Too many to list
Weaknesses: Heavy and can scratch the furniture so do not slide around. Takes time to setup due to all the functions
Summary: I purchased this to hook my HTPC to my TV and home theater speakers. The sound is excellent, and I really like the fact that if you do not use all 7 channels, 2 can be assigned to another source, and sent to another room. My wife listens to the radio while my son plays video games.

This device does it all, with the HDMI conversion, I can still use my old VCR to tape, while receiving digital channels (The wife is used to the VCR) It is really an excellent piece of equipment, but it takes a while to read the manual. The first one I got was noisy (bad transformer) but was immediately replaced - excellent service.

2 Star ReviewHarman Kardon AVR 247
Strengths: the sound is great,on screen auto seup
Weaknesses: remote is lockup intermittent,no response,
Summary: I have mine for 2 months.overall, I like it. I purchased JVC RVD301S. but I don't see the big different between them, like sound quality, easy use, but in money. what I like the AV247 is its shape, layout, HDMI inputs & output when I compare to the similiar AV receiver. but I really hate is a remote control or unit system, that they don't communicate each other like trying lower the sound volume, system lockup intermittent suddenly. sometimes, I need to turn the system physically off and on to make remote works.
