Canon 15X50 IS all-weather binoculars
Strengths: optics, image stabilization, all-weather
Weaknesses: eye relief, weight, lack of objective lens caps.
Summary: 2007-08-24 02:52:29 The glass is very good and the I.S. system allows you to use them without a tripod, although their weight can get to you before too long (resting one's elbows on a convenient surface may help.) At this price, objective lens caps should be included. The lenses aren't inset very far and are just asking to be scratched. My main complaint is that the lens cups are just too long and restrict the field of view unless folded down, in which case they are uncomfortable for extended viewing. An employee of a local nautical supply and repair shop/store said that if I left the binoculars for a few days, in their spare time they may be able to locate a suitable pair of used eye cups that will do the job, as they have hundreds of them they've collected over the years that were left over from repairing and restoring many binoculars. I'll also be asking them to look for a pair of objective lens caps that will work. I give them 3 1/2 stars.
