Weaknesses: not many for the money... not-THX cert., No Hi-Definition video ins and outs
Summary: 2005-08-23 12:43:27 I bouth this unit at a Costco liquidation outlet for around $250 two and a half years ago and love it every time I used it. Its hefty weight 28 lbs. out of box alone shows you that alot of hardware has been placed inside this units body.

A whole slew of audio and video inputs including digital(audio) and analog(audio and video) along with the ability to rename inputs allows you to input whatever you want and call its respected name made this unit so versatile and convenient I could not recommend it enough for the money I had invested.

This is a 5.1 dolby digital reciever with 7.1 options availible. Not alot of media is out there on this device so it took me aliitle bit of experimenting and re-reading the manual to get everything exactly how I prefered my unit to re-act and sound. But after my speakers were in place and my SPL levels were dialed in, this unit outperformed any of my friends stereos and completely blew the socks off of anyone whom was able to enjoy a movie/concert dvd at my house for years. Trumpets and brass sections were alive in concerts, and depth in movie sound effects watching made me feel asthough I was at a movie theatre. My speaker setup is hardly an expesive one with very moderate invested(less than $900 for everything). For me it is all about speaker placement, setting correct reciever sound function/features, and fine tuning to taste to achieve excellent sound and this reciever has all the options availible for you to do just that.

To get around the Hi-Def barrier I had to send my DVD component video directly to the TV and by pass the reciever on that side of the coin and just use the audio digital in for the killer sound. All in all if your not worried about having your reciever inputting/outputting hi-def(480p ect.) video signals and just want/need good clean audio this is a great reciever.
