3 Star ReviewJust add popcorn and notchos, cheese optional.
Strengths: Everything you need for a small home theater system at a good price. Just add display device, power, and DVD. Everything comes bundled in one compact box.
Weaknesses: Low output volume, wires are small gauge, not always long enough. Quick start guide doesn't include device settings for this DVD player and receiver combination. Need two remotes to run things
Summary: Kit contains:

STR-K7100 Receiver

SS-SRP7000 Rear surround speakers (pair)

SS-MSP7000 main/front speakers (pair)

SS-CNP900 Center speaker

SA-WP780 sub-woofer

RM-AAP016 AV Remote

DVD-NC85H 5-disk carousel

RMT-D176A DVD Remote

Nice for an entry level everything-in-the-box

home theater system. Set things up, add a display

device, power, a DVD and you're off and running.

Looks nice aesthetically.

Problems encountered:

Installation assumes amplifier and player will

be at the front of your room.

Speaker cables were short

for the room I installed the system in where

receiver is in the back. They're

also very small gauge wire. I ended up buying

new speaker cable to get the length and gauge

I needed. Also needed longer cable for woofer

speaker.

One stumbling block that took me a couple

hours to straighten out is the correct

settings to activate the Dolby Digital

Multi-Channel sound decoding.

You have to step through the DVD setup to find out

that you need to enable Dolby Digital and

set DTS to on. Then you need to make sure the

receiver input is set for auto input detect,

and be sure the DVD audio is connected with

the digital coax cable.

Since the equipment is all bundled as

a system, there should have been a quick-start

guide describing the correct DVD player settings

to go with this receiver.

It takes two remotes to run things, one for the

receiver and one for the DVD player. Somewhat

cumbersome, I ended up just programming a new activity

into my Harmony 880 universal remote.

Speaker volume is low unless you significantly turn up the

amplifier. I'm not sure yet if

this is a lack of amplifier output power or

because of speaker design. You can achieve

satisfactory sound, but the level you have to

set the amplifier to seems high.

I also added a couple pairs of Atlantic satellite

speaker stands to help support and hold the speakers

at an appropriate height.

Overall I think it's an OK system for the money, gets

you the theater experience for under $500.

If you want higher end, probably need to look at 7.1 system and some larger speakers, pick your DVD player separate.

3 Star ReviewHT-7100DH Home Theater System
Strengths: The outlook is good. The DVD player is very good.
Weaknesses: Too many lines to connect. This amplifier is too big. The sub-woofer is not good.
Summary: This unit was given to me as a gift. So far, I have enjoyed its sound and picture quality. However, it is really trouble to connect so many lines/cables. The amplifier is too big to fit into my entertainment center too.
