2 Star ReviewQuality Product but lack of Asian Fonts support!!!
Strengths: Superb sound and excellent IPOD or USB interface!!
Weaknesses: Lack of Asian fonts support!!! Big MISTAKE Alpine!!
Summary: If you happen to be one of those asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean...etc) out there, this unit may NOT satisfy you. Whether you connect your IDA-X001 thru USB or IPOD, it doesn't WORK if the media you are playing is in Asian fonts. It would only work if you remove ALL the asian fonts and rename ALL your MP3s in single byte alphanumeric characters (In most cases, ENGLISH or Number only!). Therefore, I end up renaming my entire Chinese music collection in the numeric format (001.mp3 - 999.mp3). This is such a big mistake of me on buying this Alpine product. I can't tell how hard is it to play a specific song from my collection, but trust me It's super HARD!

P.S. All Asian Fonts are NOT supported!!! Not in the ID3 Tags, neither in the FILENAMES! The only/best solution is to rename them in numeric form. Do that to the album folder as well as the tracks inside the album folder. As long your media is not involved in Asisn Fonts, it will play smoothly!

Strengths: Overall graphics incredible. Ipod works flawlessly showing album art. Sirius Satellite operation incredible
Weaknesses: the remote sinks
Summary: This is the best deck I have ever used for the ipod, bar none.

However, the engineers who designed it did not have either a budget or the time to perfect this model, because some key and necessary elements of the ipod are missing from the controls.

For example, typing in a search keyword is impossible, as Alpine does not have the feature integrated into their system, instead, you must navigate through each menu manually unlike with today's 5th generation ipods.

Also, sound controls are very limited, as there is no equalizer on the system, except for Bass, Treble, and the actualy subwoofer. I would have liked a little more control. In addition, there is a fader and balance adjustment.

Other than that, if you desire the best possible ergonomic option for ipod /auto integration, this is definetly the way to go.

Update: I discovered the preset EQ options, but they are still underwhelming, but if you aren't a control freak, then it should suffice.
