Another summer movie, another licensed game. . .
Strengths: Two single player campaigns, decent character models, interactive environments, solid voice acting, bonus disc of extras
Weaknesses: Repetitive game play, camera issues, weak storyline, short overall length, limited replay value, no online support
Summary: Not to be confused with the previously released PS2 Transformers title, Transformers: The Game is actually based on the Shia LaBeouf film, and while the graphics have been ramped up to better resemble the big screen visuals, the game play has been simplified for a general audience. If all you really care about is playing something that looks like the film, this may be the game for you.
Unfortunately, Transformers: The Game suffers all of the major problems of a typical movie-to-game translation. The combat is simple and repetitive. It has a short overall length (maybe 5-6 hours total) and no online or multiplayer support of any kind. The PS2 version includes a bonus disc with some interviews, a behind-the-scenes video and a trailer for the cartoon series, but it doesn't make the game itself any better.
Tranformers series fans will probably want to pick up the previously released game that includes multiplayer and online support. The movie-based game has decent graphics and audio, but the game play won't satisfy most players for long. For $10 or less, most people will find some level of entertainment here, but you shouldn't pay more that this if you want to avoid disappointment.
