Summary: After doing quite a bit of research on the Samsung's DLPs and other mfg DLPs it was clear that the Samsung LED model was the way to go for many reasons both present and future. You rarely see 100% positive reviews on any product, much less an HDTV, but this model did and it was pretty universal all over the web. People love this HDTV and now that I have mine setup I can see why. After just 5 seconds after power up, it's just flat out awesome and surpassed all my expectations straight out of the box! One guy here made the perfect comment that sticks in my mind every time I watch it, "The more I watch this TV, the more I like it!" I couldn't agree more.

We're seeing colors we've never seen on any TV before. One of the impressive aspects of this TV besides it incredible picture quality is it's small energy footprint. Crutchfield's real world testing shows it only requires a percentage of it's rated energy usage of 143w and in standby it is less than 1w! That's really efficient for any TV and will save hundreds over the life of the TV in energy costs that never seem to stop going up which is a big consideration in the overall criteria for such an investment.

With the LEDs you don't have to worry about replacing those expensive lamps or 15,000rpm spinning color wheels/motors either and the LEDs never get dim. No moving parts is always a good thing because that is the most complained about aspect of the non LED DLPs that I kept reading about. The most common statement was, " I wish I would have invested a few dollars more for the LED DLP model."

I couldn't believe my eyes after connecting my PC. The screen was easy to read even at 1920x1080 without any need for bumping up the font sizes-amazing edge-to-edge clarity! The sound is adequate and as all before me have stated isn't the best, but this is more of a monitor meant to be connected in a system with surround sound, so it isn't even an issue and is fine for casual viewing. Overall I'd say that Samsung screwed up on this one. Every once in a while a company will put out a product and it will be grossly under valued until they realize their mistake.

This HDTV piture quality and performance is better than most of the $4-5K Plasmas that we looked at and without the worry of plasma screen burn-in to boot! Investing in this HDTV is without reservation a no brainer...

Absolutely Stunning Pictures

Strengths: Easy set-up; three version 1.3 HDMI inputs; superb picture and sound quality

Weaknesses: Some unwanted variations in sound levels with the auto sound level function turned on

Summary: Our 10-year-old Hitachi Ultravision 50" projection TV suddenly developed convergence problems so it was time to upgrade to HDTV, which is provided through our Time-Warmer set top DVR. We love the Samsung LCD computer monitors we have, so we were not surprised the find that we loved the pictures we saw on Samsung HDTVs at Best Buy. Having researched LCD versus plasma versus rear projection sets, we decided on the 61" Samsung DLP with LED light source. It arrived from Crutchfield about a week after ordering in perfect condition. The set-up was a snap; it found all available HDTV channels during the initial scan of incoming signals. We were blown away by the almost 3-D quality of the HDTV pictures. The sound quality from the speakers hidden under the frame is almost as good as the old Hitachi. Turning on the auto sound level function gave me some unwanted results during football games; the crowd noise would be brought up to full level whenever the announcers would stop talking, then go to background again when they resumed speaking. On rock groups, the drums would come to the foreground while the vocalist would fall to the background, making it very uneven. Turning off the auto level function seems to avoid these problems, and I haven't yet noticed any large variation between commercial and programming sound levels with it turned off. The picture contrast between dark and light is terrific, there is almost no screen glare and the viewing angles are wide enough that a good picture can be seen in our kitchen as well as from any seating position in the family room. We are very pleased with this HDTV, as is our son-in-law who says he wants one for his house too!

Samsung HL-T6189S

Strengths: Beautiful picture, many inputs for multible connections, fairly small set depth.

Weaknesses: menu functions are somewhat confusing to use. I need closed captioning because of years of large aircraft work. had difficulties getting it on.

Summary: My wife and I had a 50 inch Hitachi that was going bad. We looked at plasma and LCD. This set has a brillant picture, georgeous colors and razor sharp clarity even when not on an HD channel. I have a DVR-DVD Recorder connected into one input and a VCR-DVD player into another input as well as an HD cable box and straight cable and all deliver a great picture and sound. We are very satisified with out purchase at $2600 for set an stand from Atomic TV in Roanoke, Va.
