Very Unsatisfied I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS OR ANY PRODUCT WITH WHYNTER NAME
Strengths: Nothing, other than I sent it back. lol
Weaknesses: Poor quality ice. Does not produce as advertised. Over priced, over rated. 1 year warranty has major loop whole. Rude Whynter rep.
Summary: The product manual claimed 26 lbs of ice in 24 hours. I didn't get that total in 7 days. Also states ice ready in 8 min. Mine was infrequent 15 min up and only does 10-12 cubes at a time. But mine dropped several times only 1-2 cubes at a time. Also I found many times where ice had fallen out of the machine randomly and melted on the counter. The ice is thin, less than 1 inch long and hollow. It melts very rapidly. I tried to save some in the freezer as I had a family dinner planned in 4 days. What little it made was all froze together in the freezer. So I had to buy ice. What a joke. Also it's advertised with 1 yr warranty which sounds great but when you get the product and manual they only cover shipping within the first 2 months. UPS shipping from SC to California is $62.00 1 way! It was obvious right from the start the ice maker was not working right, so day 2 I called Whynter. Their rep was very rude and uninterested. I told her the unit only made 88 cubes in 4 hours and I didn't see how at that rate it could make the 26 lbs as advertised. All I really got from her was, if I sent it back and it checked out ok I would have to pay shipping both ways. So I called the on line store then I realized this was not going to turn out good at all. Neither apparently care about satisfied customers! At that point I didn't trust either company. I had purchased an extended 5 yr in home warranty from the store. So I called the warranty co. to find out where their service center was in my area. I had hoped to have it observed in their center for 24 hr. just to verify my complaint. They do have a center here but when I told them what brand, they said they aren't even authorized to work on Whynter icemakers because even after the year warranty Whynter does all there own repairs! After 7 days 2 calls to each co. and 2 lengthy faxes (with no response) I called Whynter and requested them to send me a shipping label. Again her response was if it found to work properly I would have to pay all shipping costs. I sent it in and after UPS had verified delivery I waited for almost 2 weeks to see if I would be contacted. I ended up calling the store and AT NO SUPRISE, THEY CLAIMED IT WORKED RIGHT! End result they charged me $98.00 plus for shipping and restocking. Only good thing is I don't have their product so I never have to deal with them again. BUYER BEWARE! Only buy from on line merchants that are a member of the BBB.
