Big sound - Small price

Strengths: Price, aesthetics, price, overall design & price!

Weaknesses: Probably not ideal for true audiophiles

Summary: These are great entry-level speakers for small to mid-size entertainment rooms. The specifications look good but what really matters to me is that the sound is clear (at volume) with no hissing, buzzing, cracks or other unwelcome noises. Since I am not an audiophile (yet), I will let others speak to the technical aspects.

I use them for front speakers for a TV/DVD/Receiver setup and they work well for my medium-size house. I can definitely hear music clearly at the other end of the house when the volume is less than 50% of my (700W) receiver's volume.

They each have a side-firing speaker too, so you will want to place them away from walls. They have no "feet" or rubber pads on the bottom, so on my hardwood floors, they can wobble slightly. So far this has not been a problem like I expected.

Like another reviewer stated, the grilles are plastic and there are no frills. Nicer detailing might have earned them 5-stars, especially at $80 USD. I would definitely buy them again.

Strengths: Individual speakers (not cabinets) are durable, and are overall stable at high volumes. Cabinets are stylish with their slim and recessed speaker design.

Weaknesses: MDF wood is covered with thin vinyl and have slight flaws around the tweeters face plate, but flaws are not noticeable to the average eye. Speaker grill frames are made of plastic.

Summary: 6 1/2" woofers are firm with good return. They performed well with forced amplified frequencies below 61Hz. Volume was raised to 3/4 maximum at 100W per channel. Woofers were stable only distorting under the high amounts of added stress. There was no popping noticed during the test even at maximum volume.

Mids stay clear at 3/4 max. volume with no distorting and no noticeable white noise feedback. At maximum volume there are some traces of white noise noticed. No distorting noticed.

Tweeters are stable, crisp and clear at 3/4 max. volume.

No distortion noticed with no cracking, white noise or buzzing present.

At maximum volume there is some white noise present.

Recommend using no more than a maximum of 250 Watts per channel for peak performance with regular use at high volumes.

Use of speakers at normal to medium levels can be used at their listed maximum.

Overall I enjoy these speakers. They have decent acoustics with detail and clarity. These are perfect for use in a small to medium sized home or apartment with a living room.

They are also great for the Home Theatre.

CAT LEB-404 Mini-Tower Speakers

Strengths: Cost, well mannered, reasonable sound. Average build compared to speakers costing more. I have these rear mated to HTD towers fronts, and they blend very well.

Weaknesses: Placement is a sensitive, due to the side firing woofer. Better than any speaker anywhere close to this price range. They don't compete with $$$$ KEF, Energy, B&W.

Summary: I rate this speaker based on cost and sound quality. Since there few speakers in this cost range that can be categorized as hifi speakers, this is your only choice (I paid $79.95 for both). I used them in the rear of a $1500 system, and they work perfectly well. If you don't have a lot of money, and you want an acceptable sound, buy these speakers. I recommend these as good front sound for low end systems, and good rear speakers in better quality systems. I gave this speaker four stars because of price. Otherwise, it would be three stars if the price was higher.

More Buzz Than Boom

Weaknesses: Don't turn them up !!

Summary:

I should have known. Shipping was more than the speakers themselves. It would cost me more to send them back just to get my refund !!! They are "cute" but sound is "ugly".

SDAT CAT LEB-404 Hi-Fi Floor Standing Speaker

Strengths: Cheap,cost 50$ in croatia.(300kn) Good for small rooms.

Weaknesses: Low sound quality especially at open spaces.(like outdoor party) Low quality finish.(I had a feeling if i turn volume too much, speakers will fall apart)Doesn't sound like they have 310W RMS.

Summary: I have Sony SA-MF450 speakers which ar much,much better than SDAT CAT LEB-404,but they also more expensive. Doesn't sound like they have 310W RMS,my Sony speakers have 150W and sounds louder.

Buy only if you are low on budget.
