You get what you pay for
Strengths: Size, VGA clarity
Weaknesses: DVI not working, resolution,
Summary: I spent a little over $250 with shipping which is a great deal for this size panel, but the law of shopping: "You get what you pay for" came to hunt me.
First unpleasant surprise: No DVI cable included. Thankfully I had one laying around. I have a generic Dell with ATI FireGL V3100. I loaded all the latest drivers. I looked in the manual for x23 to see what I need to do to get it connected. I adjusted my refresh rate to 60 Hz and resolution to 1360x768. I shut down the PC, unplugged the CRT (the old tube that I used with DVI connector) and plugged in the DVI cable to the x23. I booted up. I got nothing. I pressed the power button on the monitor and I got Sceptre logo followed by "no cable connected" and the LCD shut itself down.
I tried to follow the instructions in the manual to configure the source signal manually from VGA to DVI. To my surprise x23 does not allow you to go into the OSD menu if you don’t have a signal. At this point I had enough.
I wasted an hour on the phone with technical support that was insulting my ability to configure my own computer. They also ridiculed my understanding of how LCD should be connected to the PC. I gave up on them right after they asked me to reinstall my video card driver. I told the moron on the other end of the line that I had a CRT connected to the DVI port and I know it works. This seemed to surprise him, but it did not for one second stop him from blaming my PC for the fact that the LCD that Sceptre manufactured does not work as shown in their own manual.
I connected x23 to the VGA output from my PC and it started working. The picture is OK, the brightness is great. This is about the only nice thing I can say about this horrible waste of time and money. I would never buy another one of these. It claims that it has a maximum resolution of 1440x900 but you can’t see anything using this resolution. The manual is very specific that in order to see anything you have to use 1360x768.
I wanted to return the unit, but I would have been charged for shipping, so I decided to keep it. Please not that shipping was $30.
