Strengths: Light weighted, good CPU power (for the price), DVD+-RW drive with light-scribe.
Weaknesses: Poor build-in video, 512MB RAM, limited expansion slots.
Summary: 2007-07-08 21:30:45 It is just a pure basic PC, which can run daily office applications, browse web, and play some basic games smoothly.
512MB DDR2 RAM is not enough to run Windows VISTA. I added a HP 1GB module, then watched the memory usage went to up to 1GB without installing any new software.
The motherboard only has two memory slots. But the good thing is Compaq installed 1 module of 512MB RAM in the system, instead of 2 256MB.
There are only 2 PCI slots, and one of them is used by the modem. So you can only add one more PCI card.
My system came with a 160GB SATA hard drive, which is pretty good.
Intel build-in video is still very poor. You can add a new graphics card using one of the PCI-Express Slots.
Overall, it is a good small PC for the price.

Strengths: cheap Price for a multimedia PC
Weaknesses: Works fine for me and the only thing missing is sufficient memory to run Vista properly
Summary: Vista is quite cumbersome, and doesn't do all the things XP did to make life easier. Plug n play is very confusing and lacks the ease of use that XP had. Like my printer works but the rest of its features I just haven't had the time to set up, scan, copy, fax.

Strengths: Reasonable price, good for many applications
Weaknesses: none
Summary: The PC is very good on internet, office etc. applications. It is preinstalled with windows vista. The setup process will take some time at the beginning. After that, I uninstalled all useless sfotware. The PC is faster now. I am considering upgrade the memory to 1GB, if I need it. But for vista basic, it seems OK.

Strengths: Solid machine for the price
Weaknesses: Not enough USB ports. Needs another stick of ram to run vista.
Summary: All in all, this is a good pc with a nice Lightscribe burner. it actually comes with a 160GB hard drive, not a 120GB drive as advertised. For the money, it is a good deal, but really needs an extra 512MB or more of RAM to run smoothly with vista.

compaq presario sr5010nx- Great Price -Needs memory
Strengths: Low Price DVD burner with Lightscribe
Weaknesses: Needs more memory -add at least another 512 mb ddr2 to run vista
Summary: This computer works well doing simple tasks-word processing , searching the internet etc.Cannot handle multi tasking well unless you go to maximum memory-2 gb. Vista tends to slow things down-wish it was running xp instead

Strengths: Inexpensive, good platform for upgrades.
Weaknesses: People who don't know what they've got.
Summary: Let’s start off with a little theory. Your PC, no matter how much you paid for it, will someday become outdated. When you purchase a PC, you are buying time. Eventually, you'll have to buy another one. Now, let’s do a math problem. The SR5010NX(5010 for short) costs $200. Most of the complaints against the computer are that it is too basic in the performance area. Something I’d like you to keep in mind is that, in order to get around these performance “problems” you’d have to spend upwards of $800 for a “decent” off the shelf PC. So, insert the math, you could purchase 4 basic PCs for every one “decent” PC. Put together the math and time theories. If each basic PC lasts an average of three years (which is how often I replace them) you would be purchasing four PCs before you hit $800, for a total of twelve years. Now, go do a little research. Find any 12 year old(that’s 1995 folks) PC that was decent when it was new and compare it to the 5010. Does the 12 year old have as many features? How does it perform? How modern is the software and hardware? Is the owner bragging about how fast and glorious it is anymore? In my opinion, PC technology is far more sustainable if you purchase low cost equipment frequently instead of the rare high cost purchase. Now, the 5010 is good enough for most PC users the way it is. It has the software a home user needs the most, word processing, spreadsheet, internet, CD/DVD authoring, photo editing and Windows Vista. While Vista is kind of a resource hog (every Windows version was considered a resource hog when it debuted by the way), it is also the most current Microsoft OS and will be supported long past XP. The 5010’s DVD drive is actually really good and can be found on much more expensive PCs. 512MB RAM is a little short for Vista, but it still works well for basic word processing/internet service. These options are common on most all basic PCs, regardless of manufacturer. The 5010 is good as a basic computer, however, it includes several upgrade options that make it an outstanding bargain. Let’s start with the upgrades that give the most basic bang for the buck. First, VISTA LOVES RAM. So adding some speeds up everything. Most users will be satisfied with an extra 512MB, but going for a whole Gig isn’t that much more money. I bought 1GB RAM from Best Buy for $39, threw it into the free memory slot and now have a total of 1.5GB RAM. Now Vista is humming along happily. This should be your first (and only for most people) upgrade. Second, the graphics. Like most PCs under $1000, the 5010 has onboard video. For most people, this is just fine. For the rest of us, the 5010 has a PCIe x16 slot for graphics. Now PCIe x16 is currently the fastest graphics channel available, which means the sky is the limit as far as upgrades. I got last years wonder-card, the nVidia GT 6600 with 128MB RAM. A gamer friend gave it to me when he heard I was looking, but they sell on eBay for about $40. The card uses the x16 slot and greatly enhances gaming and graphics without breaking the bank. Now, with these two upgrades, performance is greatly enhanced, but there’s more. The 5010 supports the most current processor in it’s class, the Pentium Core 2 Duo E4500, which is not the fastest (what did you expect?) that Intel produces, but they aren’t done with the series yet either. Any faster processor might just give you bragging rights instead of actual speed increases, but that’s ok with some folks. While not a performance option, a card reader on the front of the computer would be nice. That’ll set you back $17 at Best Buy and includes adapters to make it look like it came with the 5010 out of the box. You could even connect them to the unused USB connectors on the motherboard. There are really 6 available USB ports, by the way, Compaq just didn’t include hookups for all of them. Two available PCI slots (who uses modems anymore?), the aforementioned PCIe x16 and an x1 allow for some other extras should you feel the need. I pulled the modem out and put in a firewire card I use with my camcorder. So, now I have a PC that performs great, even with graphic intensive software like Photoshop, and has every option I wanted, all for about $250. Some of the local gamers had turned up their nose to this bargain priced PC, but after some inexpensive upgrades, many found that they’d lost their bragging rights to a lightweight.

Strengths: Affordable basic PC, 160GB HD, DVD+/-RW!
Weaknesses: VISTA basic, 512MB ddr2 ram.
Summary: For a basic PC this is pretty solid. Vista + 512MB Ram equals SLOW so you must add at least 1-2GB of ddr2 ram. Once you do this it's a pretty good PC that can handle any basic task, internet, office documents, watch movies (burn movies too :). Comes with a DVD burner which was a surprise for a $200 PC (when on sale). If you need to purchase a pc for you or someone that will be used for basic applications then this is a great buy.

Strengths: Budget price. Relatively quite. Minitower doesn't take up much space.
Weaknesses: Ram, Onboard Video, Sound, Scrollball mouse and 56K modem card.
Summary: I got this PC for $140 after rebate. It is quiet and works for my needs to manage documents and handle internet. 512mb is definitely not enough to run Vista smoothly so I upgraded to 1.5Gb. The onboard video card is really weak, and it takes forever to load some images. If you want to use this computer to play games, you have to get a video card upgrade. Integrated soundcard is quite mediocre. Some of the things that come with the computer is sadly outdated, e.g. a 56K modem card and scrollball mouse. All in all a good budget PC.

Strengths: Cheap.
Weaknesses: Graphic card. 512MB RAM.
Summary: 2007-08-30 17:14:13 My satisfaction comes from what I paid for this PC, not from its spec. I bought this basic PC for less than $250. I can't complain about it, but this model does have some weaknesses. Hard drive capacity and DVD burner are OK, but its poor integrated graphic card and scanty 512MB main RAM definitely need upgrade if you wanna continue to use windows Vista. Even the integraed graphic card takes some portion of main memory, so that it was pain to run Vista. Good news is the hard drive is 160GB, though the package says it's 120GB.

Strengths: You can find good price when there is a deal. Enough for everyday office work and your entertainment
Weaknesses: integrated graphic card, relatively slow CPU, and I don't like Vista runs on 512MB memory. but you can upgrade them at small costs
Summary: This is a great system for the price!
It locked up on me a couple times in my first day, but after deleting a few unneeded programs, it started working fine.
Aero looks great, but the integrated graphics is alright, if you don't mind playing games like solitaire.

Strengths: 3.46GHZ Celeron CPU, 120GB, Windows VISTA
Weaknesses: 512MB ram is little to shy to run Vista
Summary: Overall the build quality is good. The only shy thing is the internal memormy(RAM, DDR2 512MB). You may want to spend another $50 or less to upgrade the memory. It may not be for gaming. But, it is perfect for Internet berowing, email, Word.

Strengths: Good Hard Disk Storage And An Intel Processor
Weaknesses: Only Modest Memory And No Secure Digital Card Slot
Summary: The Compaq Presario sr5010nx is a solid entry level computer that comes with Windows Vista Basic. To really soar, you will need to upgrade the memory, but the computer has 2 slots for memory cards and can handle 1GB in each (2GB total). They do not have to be installed in pairs. The sr5010nx only has 2 USB ports so if you need inputs for a number of peripherals, you will need a USB hub. Good quality for the price.
