Strengths: Good picture and sound, compact, good amount of inputs
Weaknesses: Batteries supplied for the remote died within two days
Summary: I bought this TV for my wife for Christmas because she spends a lot of time in the kitchen, and she loves watching the Food Network and TLC but does so on a TV that is two rooms away while she is in the kitchen, turning the volume up to max so she can hear. We have an open floor plan so she can see the picture, but it is very inconvenient for both her and myself.
I decided to get the Sharp Aquos because I've heard great things and read some terrific reviews on their sets. There were LCD screens that were both larger and cheaper than this set (my dad picked up a 15" Magnavox LCD for $188 on Black Friday) but I decided to go with the Sharp based on other's reviews and the warranty it included (one year parts and labor).
We have the TV set up in the kitchen, using a 5.8Ghz wireless transmitter to receive a signal from the satellite box in the living room. We didn't want to have to set up another satellite box in the kitchen, or run wires from the existing satellite box to the new TV, so we went with this solution. Thankfully, the TV comes with plenty of inputs, so the wireless receiver plugged easily into the composite inputs. It also comes with an S-video input, a component input, and another set of composite inputs.
We are currently not taking advantage of the TV's EDTV capability. I would like to experiment with beaming a signal from the HDTV box downstairs using the transmitter to see what kind of picture that produces, but EDTV is really best suited to handle progressive scan DVD players, and if I find a small enough one, I may hook one up. However, since we are using this in the kitchen, I don't think we'll be watching many DVDs in there.
At 13 inches, it is the perfect size for our countertop, where every centimeter of space is important. We were looking into mounting the TV onto the bottom of a cabinet, but our current cabinets wouldn't be able to support the weight - they are old and weak. The TV comes with a table stand however, and that option is working out nicely. One nice feature I didn't know about when buying the set was that it comes with a very strong handle on top that can be used to move the television around with ease. It is very sturdy and strongly built, and looks good in the corner of our kitchen.
