Strengths: HD channels is excellent, sharp and vivid right out of the box without any tweaking. The built in tuner and TV Guide service.
Weaknesses: The construction or aesthetic is OK could have been better, e.g. not as good looking as a Sony.
Summary: I want to buy a DLP TV that uses the HD2+ chip since the consensus from most professional reviewers and users on the web that this is a better chip than the HD3. My choice narrow down to the Toshiba 52HM94 and the Panasonic PT-50DL54 but decided to buy the Toshiba because I can get it for $100 less than the Panasonic and it comes with a built in HD tuner and TV Guide service. This is a big plus since I'm not planning to subscribe to cable or satelite and planning to use it to watch mostly DVD and off the air HDTV broadcast. BTW, even with cable or satellite for now the only way to get local HDTV broadcast from the network is to use off the air antenna and a HDTV tunner which you rent from the cable company.

As for the quality, the color and contrast is excellent. The quality of SD signal is not as good but with the built in HD tuner I was able to view the local network that are re-broadcast in digital and the picture quality is very good. When viewing w/ a Progressive DVD player, the picture is breath taking (almost as good as HDTV).

Overall, for the price and quality it cannot be beat and I would definitely recommended this TV.

Strengths: Excellent HD picture. Non-HD stations better than expected and quite watchable. ATSC tuner and memory card slots.
Weaknesses: Fan constantly running on ATSC tuner with TV off. Lamp fan noticable even at moderate volume levels.
Summary: I took over a year deciding on an HDTV and used others' opinions and actual comparisons at electronics stores before deciding on the Toshiba DLP and this model. I also waited until the TV could be purchased for under $2000. The 52HM94 is everything I expected and wanted and has many hours of use. The fine sound system compliments the great picture. I also purchased the matching stand, which really comliments the TV. Using DirecTV programming and some local antenna stations, the TV provides quite nice SD pictures from either source and they end up being watched more than the HD programming. Can't wait for NFL football in HD.

Strengths: Outstanding picture quality; HDMI port (a must!); integrated HD tuner (which 52hm84 does not have); design outstanding; small profile
Weaknesses: Side speakers not necessary; TV guide feature takes quite a bit of effort to get working; user's manual says not to hook computer to screen (tv overscans computer images causing display issues)
Summary: 2005-01-18 11:26:46 I have been looking to replace my 32" Sony WEGA for the last year and waited until now for prices to drop. IMHO Toshiba's DLP picture quality is among the best (better than nearly all the Samsung and Mit sets I have seen) and the set utilizes the HD2+ chip (far superior to HD3 sets in terms of image quality and decreased artifacts). Was torn between 52hm94 and 52hmx94--the difference is that the hm94 has one HDMI port and the hmx94 has 2 HDMI ports (otherwise identical). Chose the hm94 due to the approx $400-500 price difference. It was hard for me to justify $500 for an extra HDMI port. The image quality is flawless with HD Discovery and other HD channels (have Comcast HD cable). Other channels are OK. Only problems I have heard from others regarding this set is problems using computer with this set--user's manual actually advises not connecting computer to set (a definite downside!!)

Strengths: Set up easy. Excellent color and picture. Inputs.
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: I have a medium priced A/V receiver, dvd and cable TV.(3 to 4 HD channels). This set performs better than I had ever expected. Even at 10 feet(rather close) the picture is beautiful. The set can be adjusted for just about any taste. The on-screen menus are fairly easy to follow and setup is rather simple.

Strengths: Nice stand
Weaknesses: Lamp life 2 month Customer svc horrible
Summary: Purchased TV two months ago and

lamp is out. I was told by Toshiba customer svc (must get

lamp from there per warranty)lamps are on back order for 5 weeks. After that must allow shipping time so

TV will be down at least 6 weeks.

Per Toshiba "like a light fixture with a defective light bulb."

TV guide on screen per Toshiba will not work if you have VCR connected via

cable. TV will frequently loose digital channels and you must reset to factory settings. Picture is adequate but at times will become

blurry. Sound is quite poor. Due to short lamp life and customer svc I would never purchase again.

Strengths: The picture is so clear & bright sometimes you find yourself ducking when the action is coming towards you.
Weaknesses: Still can't get the POP working. Toshiba helpline act insulted that your set isn't doing everything 100%...they act like you have done something to cause the problem.
Summary: I was extremely apprehensive about buying a new TV of this magnitude via the Internet, but researched both the TV & the seller from different sources and the result was FANTASTIC. It was delivered cross-country in 7 days, and worked beautifully soon as it was plugged in.

Programming the remote for the VCR & DVD was simple--good directions. Hookup seemed flawless--but had some difficulty in getting VCR to be accepted for the TV Guide.

But now that works great.

Changing mode from watching TV to viewing a DVD is as simple as pressing the "input" button.

"Movie Mode" has you sitting in a theater setting.

"Sports mode" with wide angle is just like being in the front row at the stadium. The white ice watching a hockey game is unbelievable....you almost feel like a goaltender as the action comes towards you.

The picture is so vivid a golfers arm hair stood out individually.

"Reminders feature" is real useful to ensure you don't miss any of your favorite shows.

The matching stand complements the TV & together they portray a really classy & expensive appearance.

At present I am using Cable for input & the picture is normally clear & color tones brilliant. I have considered getting An HD antenna but honestly I don't comprehend how the picture could be any sharper.

Once I solve the POP problem this set will be the best available.

I would definitely recommend anyone buying a new TV includes this set on their short list for serious consideration.

Strengths: Easy to setup. Great picture with HDMI DVD player. Looks good with stand. The lower lamp setting is a great idea. Picture looks great on lower setting.
Weaknesses: Maybe should have sprung for model with 2 HDMI inputs. Picture quality when used with Dish Network receiver (S-Video) is not great.
Summary: Overall, I'm very happy with the TV. I also bought a Samsung DVD player (VR325) at the same time. Together they look great. Over the air HD is also fantastic.
