Strengths: Good screen size, big hard drive, comfortable keyboard, quiet fans.
Weaknesses: Weak speakers, processor is a little slow, Vista, only 2 USB ports, integrated video.
Summary: I used this computer for a week before deciding to put XP on it. Even with 2GB of RAM, Vista was slower than what seemed reasonable.

I use my computer for word processing, web browsing, and listening to music. I don't have any complains on its speed now that I'm back to XP.

Strengths: Beautiful design and sharp screen
Weaknesses: a little bit pricey, too many junk softwares
Summary: I like sony's design, although its price is higher than the similar laptop from other manufactory. The screen is amazing, and looks pretty comfortable for hours. But I do spend an hour after the first startup to remove those junk softwares installed. More RAMs are recommended. Overall, a nice gift to my wife!

1 Star ReviewUnreliable machine. Junk software. Poor support.
Strengths: Pretty good screen.
Weaknesses: Very poor reliability. Tons of junk software. Runs slow with Vista. Very poor customer support.
Summary: This is among the worst painful computer experience I've had. When I bought the computer, it took me 3-4 hours just to remove all the junk trial software. Since then, the wireless network adapter works intermittently. After contact Sony Level 2 support, I learned this is a common problem. It's difficult for me to isolate whether this problem is caused by Sony's driver or Vista, but both Sony and Microsoft are apparently quite certain it's the other guy's problem. The hard drive was corrupted after 2 weeks of use - a problem on both of the two Sony notebook computers I've used.

Vista is a real junk OS. It seems to retain all the problems from XP and introduces plentiful of new annoyances. This computer has a 1.6 GHz dual-core processor, which I understand has the same architecture as the Core Duo but less cache memory. It runs pretty slow with Vista Home Premium. The shutdown-reboot cycle takes over 6 minutes!

What I find particularly distasteful is that in order to save a few dimes, Sony does not ship a Vista CD with the computer, so you have to make your own "restore" disks. The major problems is that if there is any software problem, their technical support wants you to do a full restore that wipes you hard drive and gets you back to the factory setting!

My advice is to stay away from this product. Save your time and sanity and switch to Apple computers. Or at least stick with XP. If you decide to try any machine with Vista installed, make sure you have a return policy with no restocking fee.

1 Star ReviewSony lover - but love is not always blind
Strengths: sleek, solid, beautiful design
Weaknesses: Slow, poor DVD writer, junk software, no AV out , wireless stopped working after 4 months, NO RECOVERY SOFTWARE DVD
Summary: 1)Does it have a A/V out ?

2)Does this write movie DVD completely (even after 3 hrs of slow writing?) ? (though it somehow writes CDs )

3)Does it have at least average speakers like Dell, that you can hear from 4 ft away ?

4)Does it run no junk processes that slow the system ?

5)Is the screen quality better than Toshiba? (for X Brite - Eco models)

6)Does it work faster than any random brand ?

7)Does it have nice buttons for multi media control ?

8)Does not device drivers for fn keys to set volume, inturn slow down the system ?

9)Does it work reasanobly fast for 1 GB RAM ?

10)Does it have battery life that is even 30% of IBM think pad ?

11) Does it have recovery mechanism, that will surely work ?

12 ) Does it come with recovery software DVD provided with the bundle like Toshiba,HP,Compaq and everyone?

13) Does this get wirless signals as efficient as others ?

14) Are you certain that your battery won't blow and spoil your face like the recalled sony batteries?

If anyone could answer YES for half of above 14 questions, Your sony laptop price should be more than $2000. please repeat buying SONY. they are the best.

IF not, sorry you bought sony product for less than $2000 (which has quality of $650 laptop from other brands) and your friends will praise your laptop. you can be proud like the nude king.
