Strengths: Energy Star compliant, Low Price
Weaknesses: Universal fit means compromises
Summary: I bought 2 of these units because they qualified for $100 rebates from the NY State 2007 BE COOL program. When you are looking for Energy Star compliant 220 Volt Thru-the-Wall air conditioners, there are not many choices - but these are the least expensive. The "Universal Fit" is achieved by means of a plastic trim frame for the inside, and lots of pieces of insulation foam in various sizes. Installation is very simple, and the instructions detail which pieces of insulation material to use for each specific sleeve. I have these units installed in Hotpoint/GE sleeves as well as a Fedders sleeve. The unit fits very snugly into the Hotpoint sleeve, but sticks out about 5 inches. The Fedders sleeve is much bigger and deeper, and the unit is a little small for it - so you will have to use most of the insulation material to make it snug. Before I got this, I thought a remote control for an air conditioner was kind of gimmicky. Now that I have it, I love the convenience. You can control all the functions with the remote - on/off, temperature, fan speed, timer, etc. The remote even has a temperature read out on it - thought it is always 2 degrees higher than the temperature read out on my Honeywell wall thermostat. All in all, I am very satisfied with these units.
