Strengths: It's not a Madden game (i.e., rehash), low price (retails for $19.99)
Weaknesses: It's not a Madden game (i.e., no official NFL license), no franchise mode
Summary: I remember when the first 2K football game came out on the Dreamcast. It was a beaut. Then Madden came out on the PS2. It didn't look as good as 2K but sold better. The 2K series went through some initiatives, such as offering them at retail for $19.99 and partnering with ESPN. In the end, EA put an end to their competition with 2K by paying the NFL a boatload of money for an exclusive official NFL license until who knows when. I guess the pressure from 2K was getting to be too much for them. So here we are today, 2K is back to offering their game at $19.99 to get people to try it out, except it can no longer use current NFL player names, team names, stadiums, etc. Instead, 2K is forced to sign up retirees, use "fake" players and make up their own team names and uniforms (or you can build your own), taking away from the familiarity that comes with the NFL license. As a result, hardcore NFL fans might have a hard time getting into it because of those reasons. However, what "real" names and players it does have are some of the biggest of all time, like Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, John Elway, Barry Sanders...even, OJ Simpson! The graphics don't have the awe factor as the 2K series used to have for its times, but they get the job done. The game itself is a pretty good game of football. It is lacking in modes though, as it does not have a franchise mode. You can play a season but it doesn't carry over to the next. There is an online mode that I haven't used but is supposed to let you play games against people online. All in all, I support this product because it is inexpensive yet pretty good - and because I do not like the anti-competitive practices of the EA Madden series...EA is holding back all true progress in football videogame development that comes from competition, and they are just selling the same game year after year, only throwing in a new feature/bone here and there and updating rosters, and charging full price ($59.99 retail) every time. What's funny is that Madden games depreciate in value to $5 to $10 whenever the new season comes around and the new roster updates (a.k.a. next Madden game) comes in, losing about 90% of the price you pay for them every year...but this 2K game should hold its value better because the classic players in it are timeless. I would be interested to see how this new 2K series progresses, if they managed to make enough money to make another one (I'm sure securing the rights to these Hall of Fame players had to cost them a good chunk of change).

2k what?
Strengths: reused feel to gameplay and feel from past 2k sports football games.
Weaknesses: reused feel to gameplay and feel from past 2k sports football games.
Summary: As an offline, single-player game, All-Pro is a weak effort. You get a quick game mode, and one season to play through against a series of pre-made teams, and once you win the championship (or don't), that's pretty much the end of it. There's no franchise mode, no crib, none of the amenities 2K Sports fans have become accustomed to over the years.
kinda sad to see this once great franchise going this way.

Cheap... but.....
Strengths: Price, Graphics, Controls
Weaknesses: Rosters, Teams, Longevity
Summary: I got this game because I didn't want to play the NFL 2K5 PS2 Version any longer and had been VERY pleased with the 2k football series. However, after getting this game I see how hard it is to create a competitive football game without the use of current players, or teams. This game lacks the ESPN touch that made the NFL 2K5 game so great, no Chris Berman Halftime or pregame, and more than that the game comes with some "Legends" which you can play as, but they limit you to picking 9 legends for your team and fill the rest of your roster with computer generated names and profiles. In my opinion you would be much better off getting Madden, even though the graphics are not as good, or if you do not mind out dated or fake rosters, just get NFL 2K5 from the local used game store, and enjoy, Madden still has not caught up with the greatness that was and is NFL 2K5...

Madden is Still the Champ
Strengths: If you like Retro this Game has all the former all time greats
Weaknesses: Graphics are low quality compared to EA Sports Graphics
Summary: This Game is not even in Madden's League but for the price is worth trying. Playing a game with Elway and Montana is fun and that makes it different than Madden. Since you cannot create a franchise mode it is a game for quick play only. I was able to get this game at a Xmas Sale for $9.99 and for the price it was a good buy. However Madden is still King of the football video Kingdom.

a fair alternative to madden
Strengths: it has alot of famous ex football players
price
Weaknesses: to play online you need 4 people minimum
graphics
Summary: i am not a big football fan, but i liked this game. the graphics aren't the best and it does not have the official teams and players, but you can still enjoy a good football game having joe montana and emitt smith on your team. it is also very cool to have the latest scores and news on the bottom of your screen as you're playing.

All Pro Football 2k8
Strengths: Nostalgia Factor, Price
Weaknesses: No Franchise Mode, Graphics
Summary: If you are only going to buy 1 football game this year you need to buy Madden but if you are going to get two pick this up. Playing as some of the NFL greats is a fun change of pace. The lack of franchise mode is a turnoff also. You can only play a single season at a time. The graphics are outdated as well, it's closer to 2k5 then what you would expect 2k8 to be. I picked this game up for $9.99 and am ok with that. I dont think I would pay anything over that for it tough.
