Strengths: Rich features, great sound, nice iPod integration, well designed
Weaknesses: text is small, but hey there is a lot of information
Summary: CDA-9885 is the third Alpine head unit I used after 7982 and 9827. My initial impression with 9885 was the sound seems flat and cold with default settings out of box, compared with 9827 with MX on. After adjusting the treble and bass, 9885 delivers great sound. The layout of the buttons looks nice. A mix of blue, red and white lights on the display blends well into the car panel. The display is very useful and displays a lot of information. I found the AM reception is not as good as 9827 and about the same as 7982, but 9885 works the best with satellite radio. The satellite radio signal is the strongest with 9885, and I have not experienced as many signal loss inside parking garage as before. Overall feature-wise, it probably gets everything you need. The direct iPod control is the most useful feature. No more a bulky separate control interface box. Only a cable is required to control the iPod and it charges iPod, too. A remote control is included. This receiver will be the one to keep for a long time.
