Welcome to the 1980s.Having just made it back onto the streets of Liberty City after a long stretch in maximum security, Tommy Vercetti is sent to Vice City by his old boss, Sonny Forelli. They were understandably nervous about his re-appearance in Liberty City, so a trip down south seemed like a good idea. But all does not go smoothly upon his arrival in the glamorous, hedonistic metropolis of Vice City. He's set up and is left with no money and no merchandise. Sonny wants his money back, but the biker gangs, Cuban gangsters, and corrupt politicians stand in his way. Most of Vice City seems to want Tommy dead. His only answer is to fight back and take over the city himself. From the decade of big hair, excess, and pastel suits comes a story of one man's rise to the top of the criminal pile as Grand Theft Auto returns to the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system this October. Vice City is a huge urban sprawl ranging from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto, and is the most varied, complete and alive digital city ever created. Combining non-linear gameplay with a character driven narrative, you arrive in a town brimming with delights and degradation and are given the opportunity to take it over as you choose. Minimize |

GTA: Vice City Stories
Strengths: gameplay
Weaknesses: framerate issues
Summary: GTA Vice City Stories is not as good as some of the other Grand Theft Auto titles. Vice City Stories has an ok storyline and gameplay. THe game is a little on the short side. Overall if you really enjoy GTA games Vice City Stories is decent at its bargain price of under 20 dollars.

Strengths: gameplay
Weaknesses: graphics
Summary: This is another great Grand Theft Auto game, just as good as the original Vice City and others. It is very fun to play and has a great story. Graphics are old but it is the Playstation 2 so it is forgiveable.

Strengths: Gameplay
Weaknesses: Framerate
Summary: Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories is basically GTA Vice City revisited with some new features. While not exactly fresh, the game is still tons of fun. The game does suffer from some framerate problems that can distract from the game that weren't present in the original. It isn't often but can be a bit annoying. It may not be new but this game is still one of the best out there, any GTA fan should pick this up.

Strengths: Best storyline yet, great soundtrack, cheap
Weaknesses: graphics are really starting to age, we've played this before
Summary: Here we are, another Grand Theft Auto game. A prequel to the original Vice City.
Vice City Stories was surprising in that it actually has a great storyline and almost outdoes the original VC in that respect. The soundtrack is also great, Phil Colllins is even in the game!
The gameplay here is what you've come to expect and its great, save the spotty targeting system as usual. Lots of things to do and you will get a lot of value out of it.
The worst thing about the game is that GTA's graphics is starting to show its age. The game is really starting to look old and that sometimes can be distracting.
Either way this is a fun game and it isn't expensive, so its really worth a pick up.

Strengths: many vehicles to drive, awesome soundtrack
Weaknesses: same clunky combat system
Summary: Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories is another driving and shooting game for the PS/2. If you played the previous grand theft auto games, especially Vice City, then you'll be very familiar with this game which is a direct port from the PSP. In this iteration you play as Lance Vance’s brother Vic , who starts the game as a military man that enters a life of crime at the behest of his corrupt commanding officer. Vic start as a law-abiding soldier who, as the game progresses, gets deeper and deeper into the criminal of life and its various shady activities. This game is very similar reports to the original GTA Vice City and if you played it you will be familiar with many of the sights and settings of the city. You get to drive many vehicles such as cars, motorbikes, and even helicopters . Unfortunately the same old problems that plague the series still manage to remain here such as clunky melee combat and faulty collision detection. There's a new aspect presented in this game called the Empire system in which you tried to build your own vast criminal empire by defeating the various gangs throughout the city,. You basically enter a gang’s territory, and kill all the gang members, smash up the place, and then set up your own illegal venture. This new business will generate money for you each day and will also act as another checkpoint where you can save your game in. Also the same awesome sound track that accompanies every GTA game is present here also; 1980's dance, pop, rock, and even hip-hop are here as well as hilarious commercials and funny radio deejays. I highly recommend getting this game even though it doesn't look as attractive as the other GTA games since it is a PSP port.

If you aren't tired of GTA yet
Strengths: same things you'd come to expect from GTA (excluding San Andreas)
Weaknesses: looks like a bad GTA 3 and plays like GTA Vice city
Summary: I've never been a fan of the GTA series but can appreciate what the developers have attempted to do. Vice City Stories gives us yet another new character (actually it's a relief since the character in Liberty City Stories was horrible) to run around in a large city and create havok. The missions are pretty much the same as other GTA games - drive from point a to point b, shoot people, etc.
If you can't get enough of GTA then pick it up, if you're new to the series skip this game and go for the core series - 3, Vice City, or San Andreas.

Prequel to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Strengths: Storyline that connects the previous games in the series together. Good selection of weapons and vehicles.
Weaknesses: Character still afraid of water. Annoying side mission and packages. Pretty much the same things that Vice City offered.
Summary: Like Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories is the prequel Vice City, since Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories takes place prior to the events of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The main character, Vic, is the brother of Lance, the guy who helped Tommy from time to time in Vice City. Anyway, the storyline helps connecting the previous games together, allowing the players to understand what happened. The continuity is fairly good. And like Vice City and Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories offers quite a good selection of weapons to use and vehicles to drive.
However, like the previous Grand Theft Auto games except San Andreas, the character still have aquaphobia. And the trademark side missions and package searching are still there. The game itself is pretty much the same as Vice City except with different characters and storylines.
The game itself is not bad, but after four installments of Grand Theft Auto games in 3D, it does feel repetitive and boring having to do the side missions and package searching. However, it does offer a good storyline that allow the player to understand what happened before and connect to the events happening in Vice City. It is most recommended for Grand Theft Auto fans and those that like to know the events that took place before. For those feel bored with the gameplay and repetitiveness, the game probably can be skipped without much regret.

Better than Liberty City Stories...
Strengths: Good voiceacting, bargain bin price
Weaknesses: same old missions found in past games, the same horrible controls, PSP graphics
Summary: Vice City Stories is a port of a PSP game - meaning the developers pretty much just transferred the handheld game so that it's playable on the Playstation 2.
So straight off the bat, you can expect some of the weaknesses like the low level graphics. The characters are blocky and there aren't a lot of textures so buildings etc. look kind of plain. This isn't a real big problem when you're outside walking around town (Vice City has a lot of variety which gives it some personality) but when there's a cutscene you can really see the ugly graphics up close.
Besides the limitation of it being a port, Vice City Stories is pretty much the same old Grand Theft Auto game. You drive to spots indicated on the map, pick up a mission, drive to another location, beatup people and then drive back to end the mission. The missions here take less time because the game is smaller, but I actually liked this. In the old PS2 games, the cities were too big and you spent most of the time driving to and from missions which I found to be really boring.
Vice City Stories is a big improvement over Liberty Stories but the game itself isn't all that fun. The only reason I bought it is the price is right - I got it for half the retail price.

GTA: Vice City Stories
Strengths: Same as before, soundtrack
Weaknesses: Same crap as before
Summary: This game is pretty much the same game as the original Vice City. This is like an expansion. Same style, same visuals, and same old crap. The soundtrack is awesome in this game. This game is getting old. It is overrated. Luckily GTA IV is coming soon. I'm looking forward to it. Just pick this up if you can't have enough of killing and shooting the same thing over and over again.

Strengths: Nice music. Acting is well done. Overall fun gameplay. Budget priced.
Weaknesses: Adds nothing new to the GTA franchise.
Summary: Really wish they had done a PC version, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. In the console version you have to use lock-on for aiming on most weapons which doesn't always lock-on to who you want. Plus it always locks onto the body of someone so if only their head is exposed behind a wall for instance, you hit nothing but wall. Still it's not all bad. You have your choice of what you want to do, whether it be doing missions, hunting for packages, doing rampages, and lots of other things depending on your mood. The fact that this has been budget price sealed the deal for me. If you liked any of the other GTA's then you should enjoy this.
