Strengths: Looks
Weaknesses: Audio Extraction Rate (4-6X not 20X)
Summary: In a search for a CD-ROM drive with fast ripping rates I came across this promising drive that Creative states that it has up to 20X rip rate with AudioAccel technology. I bought it and tested the drive on P4 1.5GHz 256 Mb RIMM PC Win XP with Roxio's Easy CD creator CD copier and 40x12x40 burner. Drive test results showed 4X for audio extraction rate and actual burning was not faster than 4-6X. Great disappointment and I can not recommend anyone to buy this drive. I am amazed that Creative can get away with this marketing method.

Strengths: Same as any 52x CD-ROM
Weaknesses: Pricey - and nothing to show for it
Summary: It's pretty hard to believe Creative these days: I bought this drive and paid the extra $$ because it has "AudioAccel": Potentially ripping my CD's at up to 20x. But now after a month and some figiting I'm only getting 5-6x rips, about the same I get with any of my CD-Roms. There is no technical documentation on this feature. Creative's support site also has no mention of AudioAccel, so no help there. I'm beginning to think it's just "vaporware". The Tray on my drive is also a little weak (it tilts slightly) and opens slow. Spend your money elsewhere.

Strengths: Fast reads, once it spins up. Easy install.
Weaknesses: Scraped the edges of a few CD's that I had.
Summary: I actually had two of these drives. The first one I bought worked pretty good, but I found when I put certain CD's in the tray, it would scrape the outer edge of it. It never affected the data on the CD's, fortunately, but I wasn't about to let it eat my CD's. So, I returned it and bought another one. This one worked fine for a few weeks and didn't eat any CD's, but then it suddenly exhibited the same problem. I finally returned it and bought an Acer 50X (which has been problem-free).

I would definitely not recommend this CD-ROM to anyone. Stick with Sony or Toshiba CDROM drives.
