Strengths: ear buds fit nicely, decent noise reduction, small compact battery/control "pod" with a nice clip, "monitor" button to let you hear without having to take the ear buds out
Weaknesses: a bit pricey - although you can find them cheaper than the list of $99, still not as bad as Bose or some others in price
Summary: I bought these to replace the cheap earbuds that came with my mp3 player, and to do a bit of noise canceling. (I don't like "cover your ears" style headphones.)
I work from home and for the past three years we've had continual construction on one side or the other of our house, making it hard to concentrate at times. I found that these are pretty good at reducing the background noise, although they don't get rid of the big thuds and crashes that come from the construction site. (Of course, I suspect no headphones would be really able to eliminate the big crashes and thuds, which you feel almost as much as hear...) Still, I can hear my music without cranking it up as much as I used to have to, which is good for my aging ears! I haven't had a chance to try them on an airplane yet, but based on how well they do with the ambient noise here at home, I suspect they'll do pretty well with the background noise on a plane too.
I had tried a previous pair of cheaper noise canceling headphones and they came with an annoying lanyard that you had to hang around your neck to support a clunky battery/control "pod". These are much nicer - the "pod" is much smaller, and has a clip on the back that you can attach to your collar or pocket. That was a big reason I bought these, and I'm happy with this feature.
Overall (like one of the other reviewers), I wish I could give them a "halfway in-between" mark of 4.5, marking down just a bit for price. Since I can't, I'll give them a 4, although I almost gave them a 5.
