Strengths: Great image quality, setting controls, image stabilizer, auto focus, works with existing Minolta lenses
Weaknesses: Grainy photos at ISO 1600 settings. A little noisy when the shutter engages. And makes a little noise when the image stablizer is turned on. Could use a strap to hold the lens cap.
Summary: Bought this as my first DSLR camera. Also, compared this camera with the Canon Rebel XTi and the Nikon D80 DSLR cameras. Decided to go with this camera because of the Steady Shot, image processor features, and compatible with both Compact Flash and Memory Stick Pro. Also, the price was great for a first time camera and came with two lenses. The camera is pretty easy to use once you get familiar with the main controls. Setup was pretty easy, took about five minutes to get it working right out of the box. Took this camera on vacation and the images were excellent both indoors and outdoors. Showed the pictures to my friends and family and they were amazed at the detail and color of the images. For example, I took a macro shot of a flower and the color and detail of the raindrop on the flower were very lifelike. Also, I printed the images and the photos were just as good as a regular film camera. So far I had no major problems with the camera. There are some weaknesses as I wrote above in the weakness section. One other weakness is that the flash has to be manually engaged and takes time to charge. However, despite some of its weaknesses, overall it is a great entry level camera for a beginning user.
Also, I recommend getting a large capacity memory card especially when taking RAW + JPEG shots at the same time. My 2GB CF card was only able to take approx. 100-120 images. I had to switch back to JPEG to make sure I didn't run out of memory for the rest of the trip.
