Strengths: Saves you from fighting over who's turn it is to use the internet.
Does not require cables hooked to each computer as in an ethernet situation.
Only requires one modem.
Lets you share files.
Weaknesses: Eats up system RAM and computer that is designated as server cannot be used w/o disrupting connection speed.
Only 1.6M data transfer.
Sometimes has bugs in updated software releases.
Summary: This product saved my family from perpetual fighting over 'net time. It allowed all of us to be online at the same time without having to hook cables to each computer like a regular LAN. The connection works via the phone cord. Only the server computer is required to have a modem and needs to be hooked directly to a phone line. The phone line hooks to the Anypoint and to the modem of the server-- which is also connected via a USB port. The other computers worked with the phone cord hooked to the Anypoint and the Anypoint hooked to the USB port. Anywhere you have an outlet for that phone line, you can hook up. We had more than 5 computers running off of one server and it was great. The only time we had problems was when someone used the server to run some programs. It caused the connections of the other computers to slow down. This could have been because the server was a Compaq with low speed. Connection to the internet is not slowed by the split. Another problem we experienced came after an upgrade in the software was downloaded and installed on the computers. It was supposed to improve things, but after that it started having more trouble detecting connection to the Anypoint network. This problem may have been corrected in a later patch though. The devices themselves are pretty durable- surviving falls. Another plus: file and printer sharing. You can choose to allow others to access files on your computer or even use your printer from their computers. A great buy!
