Strengths: Highly configurable and stable
Weaknesses: Hardware set up is a tricky business
Summary: I downloaded this distro of Linux from linuxiso.org after I made the decision to leave redhat. I tried several distrobutions before ending up with Slackware, including Mandrake, Corel, Rehdat, SuSe, and several others. When I first got it, it was a little tricky to set up all the hardware, but after I got used to it it was quite easy. X is extremely easy to set up, because the slack kernel and XF86Config comes set up default for frame buffered X. After getting it installed and learning how to use it, Slackware is my distro of choice. I have this running on a 233 mhz laptop, and have had it running without a reboot for over 150 days of use, wich probably would have been much longer had my cat not pulled the power plug. I'm also running my webserver, ftp, and telnet off of this laptop very happily. A friend of mine also has slack 7.1 installed, but on a 386, and his uptime is about 140 days. I'd recommend this distro for anyone who really wants to learn linux, except I'd tell them to go with slackware 8.0 considering it has about 3 times the software on it. --Slackware for a better world-- doko ni datte..hito wa...tsunagette iru
