Strengths: Can burn all formats. Excellent performance. Excellent price.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: Easy to install. Ran flawlessly out of the box. Installation instructions are brief, but accurate and easy to understand. Upon checking LG’s web site for updates, I found that the firmware supplied on the drive was one version out of date. The firmware installation was easy and safe.

I like the performance and the fact that it will do all formats including DVD Dual layer. It is very quite for a high speed drive (a plus) A neutral observation, the unit does not seem as mechanically solid as the Plextor unit I am replacing. Also, the software package is a little sparse, but covers the basic needs for most applications.

Overall an excellent drive at a great price! I highly recommend this drive.

Strengths: Easy to install and efficient.
Weaknesses: None to date.
Summary: 2005-02-23 13:59:35 Installed quickly with no problems, windows loaded the drivers automatically. I am amazed by this DVD drive. Price is very reasonable as well. At least give this DVD drive a look if you are in the market for one.

Strengths: Reads virtually all formats, so far no problems. I have even tried dvd-ram- it worked flawlessly. It is a very quiet unit, nice looking too.
Weaknesses: Haven't found any yet, although I haven't tried all the included software yet.
Summary: This unit does what it says, it reads and writes to almost all major formats. Installation was a breeze, even if you have never installed a drive (this was my second drive install). I tried it with Dvd-ram, Dvd-r , and a commercial cd - all without a single problem. I couldn't be happier with this unit, especially at this price - it's a no brainer !! I wish dvd+r dual layer dvds were a little bit cheaper so I could give them a try with this unit.

Strengths: Can use any media
Weaknesses: Haven't really found any.
Summary: I've purchased a couple of other DVD writers and had problems using all media in the drive. This drive accepts any of the media I have purchased to this point. Would I recommend it to someone, you bet. It's the best I've found so far and I think this is my 3rd dvd drive.

Strengths: Supports all formats including "dual layer" burn. A snap to install. Firm ware updates. Note - firm ware updates are for LG branded drives only. no oem versions.
Weaknesses: Only one.... no front audio jack.
Summary: This is my first DVD burner and it has taken everything I have tossed at it. It is quite and works as designed. You can't ask for anything more than that. I bought a "bulk pack" LG branded drive so the software was just the basics to get you started.

Strengths: Compatible with a variety of media, quiet, burns CD-R at 40X and DVD's at 12X
Weaknesses: This drive is fussy with the type of media used
Summary: I have this drive contained in a ADS USB 2.0 External Case.

Very good drive but if you're using "cheap" DVD media the drive doesn't burn so well. For instance, when using Nero 6.x the drive's "Lead In" fluctuates and burn slowly, thus I have to use a slower burning speed (such as 4X) for the DVD to be burned successfully.

Other than this issue of using cheap media, this drive burns my CD-R's and DVD perfectly when using quality media such as RiDATA and BenQ discs.
