Strengths: Very cheap nowadays. fast, runs cool, good overclocker, nice 1 mb L2 cashe.
Weaknesses: Not dual core lol.
Summary: 2007-05-15 16:35:22 I went from 500Mhz overclocked s.754 Athlon64 3000+ On a Epox 8NPA + SLI motherboard, to this Athlon 4000+. This,as I whas getting a Geforce 7950GT to replace my moderatly fast Radeon X1800GTO.
I decided to do this upgrade, as I was worrying about, that the 3000+ with pretty big certainty would bottleneck my new videocard somewhat.
But as I whas on a bit of a tight budget. The Intel Core 2 Duo cpus and motherboards where out of reach.
If I had gone down the Core 2 Duo road. It would also have meant, I would have had to get some exspensive DDR II RAM.
Besides, I dont do much multitasking. And games that supports dual core are still pretty few.
So I decided too settle for the fastest AMD single core i could lay my hands on for a reasonable price.
So after some searching on the net. I found the Athlon64 4000+ s. 939 (San Diego core) and a cheap ( but good) DFI Infinity SLI motherboard.
That together did cost about what you normally pay for a good upper midrange videocard! I whas very pleased!!!
And the cpu/ mobo did'nt let me down!
Easily did both 2.8Ghz and 3.0 GHz stable and with better temperatures ( Max 47C at 3.0 GHz in Prime 95 stability test)( Scythe Ninja Plus cpu cooler, with 120mm fan lowered to 650rpm.) Than my previous 500Mhz overclocked s. 754 3000+ with the same heatsink / fan.
And even at stock speed, the 4000+ is blazing fast. The Geforce 7950GT purred like a content kitten thru the games.
Windows loadtime did improve noticeable as well as with other programs. I also noticed that Adobe Photoshop runs smoother. The larger L2 cashe maybe?
I also did a SIS Sandra arithmetic cpu benchmark after I have overclocked the 4000+ to 2.8 GHz. And it showed to perform very close to it's bigger, and much more exspensive brother, the AMD FX 57. And the FX 57 still costs over 1000 bucks. Nice huh?
So if you are looking for a really fast single core cpu? Then hurry and get this beauty, before it dissapears from the shops! You wont be dissapointed.
