Decent Docking Station
Strengths: Nice integration with the Pioneer Elite receiver line
Weaknesses: No video support for classic iPod, iTouch or iPhone (Apple added authentication chip).
Summary: To start, ensure that you have a Pioneer Elite receiver. If you don't, take a look at the IDK-01 product for non-Elite receivers. If you have a Pioneer Elite receiver, this dock is a nice-to-have accessory but, quite honestly, it is not a must-have.
The lastest generation of iPods DO NOT output video through this dock. There are a few workarounds, like using the Apple approved cord to get video started and then place it in the dock, but if you don't want to but the Apple dock AND this dock, then go for the Apple dock instead.
What this dock does do is provide a mechanism for charging the iPod while it is being used to pump your music, digitally, into your Elite Receiver. I personally found a signficant difference between using standard component cabling versus the Pioneer cable that, as stated above, runs the music digitally to your receiver.
Overall, the lack of photo or video support on the latest iPods does cut into the features this unit provides and I can't see it surviving long as a call with Pioneer's Product support indicates there is no current initiative to support the latest iPods with their receivers or docking stations - most unfortunate.
