3 Star ReviewLasted a few years
Strengths: Easy to use. High Power
Weaknesses: Not very long life
Summary: We had the same problem. Just a few years after purchasing this unit, the display blanks out just a few seconds after pressing start. Everything I've read indicates a bad Magnetron. I think it is probably a bad design.

1 Star ReviewHistory of bad magnetron problems - Ours has been replaced TWICE
Strengths: High wattage - nice features
Weaknesses: Poor quality control of part - poor service life.
Summary: Our JVM1650 was Manufactured Jan 2005. - Stopped working and would reset itself while running. First they tried replacing moisture sensor, then replaced the control board twice before diagnosing a bad/defective magnetron. Magnetron Replaced OCT 5 2006 and it ran fine for about a year before showing exact same symptoms. Magnetron replaced again DEC 4, 2007 under warranty after contacting GE Consumer Relations at 800-386-1215 and explaining that the part that was replaced had failed again. Kudos to GE for stepping up and doing the right thing, but it would have been cheaper for them to have just replaced this lemon the first time. We paid $268 for this thing, and the (defective) replacement part was priced at $139 (plus labor/service fees) had the charges not been waived.

3 Star ReviewGood enough for me
Strengths: Easy to read manuals More than enough vent power Good lighting underneath to stovetop Lots of one-touch features
Weaknesses: None have been found yet Life expectancy could be an issue - let's hope not
Summary: I am very happy with the limited amount of cooking I've done so far - defrosted hamburger, cooked popcorn, re-heated leftovers, defrosted frozen ice cream. Paid approximately $310 delivered, including additional 1 year warranty. I chose this product based on matching my other GE kitchen appliances and the need to free up counter space. Installation was a breeze thanks to the easy to follow instructions.
