Strengths: 1080P, Lots of I/O connections, Easy Menu Setup, Good Subwoofer, Built-in HDTV Tuner, gloss black frame and more
Weaknesses: Non so far
Summary: I bought this LCD TV from Sams Club on May 19th 2007 and I paid $1581, and since then I have been enjoying this HDTV, watching HD channels (OTA) , watching downloaded movies on my Laptop (RGB), my Dish Network channels (Composite), my VCR (Composite), and my DVD on (Component), and all are giving excellent, pure picture with easy to setup menu interface and I can program different settings to each connection.

I have not tried my HDMI I/P yet, but I'll be soon after upgrading my DISH receiver and my DVD

The remote control is good, easy to program to control my DVD,VCR, and receiver, with back-light, also the subwoofer makes it better with movies and games

So far I'm happy with this LCD, it is giving me what I need and more with $1K less than other big brands.

I recommend this HDTV to everyone who is looking for a great picture with less price

Strengths: great clear picture. colors pop out. almost like looking out a window
Weaknesses: haven't found any yet
Summary: We had an older big screen. WOW what a difference. This is a great TV at a great deal. Images are clear and bright. Almost like you are looking out a window than in a tv screen. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for nice LCD TV. It was a great deal.

Strengths: Slick design, good price, easy-to-use remote control.
Weaknesses: Picture quality, tv settings time, not-so-good sourround.
Summary: Before I bought this TV, I had a Sharp 46 in. 1080P LCD TV. We use our TV to watch cable programs most of the time and we thought maybe we didn't have to spend $2000 on a tv like Sharp. We ended up spending $1600 for this Vizio. But surprisingly, the picture quality is better on cable programs than Sharp's and we are happy about it. I like the design of the tv. The touch panel on the lower right of the screen for on/off and volume is pretty cool. The remote control is easy to use. I can just press one button to switch to my DVD player, video game, or VCR.

For the weaknesses of the tv, I only found some minor things with this tv. There seems to be echoing when surround is turned on. It's even more serious when I am watching DVD and I have to turn it off. There should be more scales when adjusting volume from 0 to 1. Sometimes late at night scale 1 is still to loud. When adjusting any tv settings, the setting only stays on screen for a very short period of time. It disappears before I read it completely.

Overall this is a very nice tv with a good price. I know lots of reviews talk about the picture quality of this tv. The picture quality of this tv is definitely not as good as Sharp's when comparing side-by-side. I think this is still acceptable to me and I have a 1080p upconversion DVD player. The quality is actually pretty good to me. I would recommend this tv to people who are looking for a nice 1080P tv but don't want to spend much money on a high end brand.

Strengths: - good value for the money - razor sharp images with good HD sources - touchpanel on front is pretty cool - virtual surround sound is decent
Weaknesses: - remote operation for volume and channel is a bit odd- you hit it once to turn on the backlight, then you can do channel and volume up/down
Summary: 2007-10-01 12:34:55

For those that have had the 46" version, the 47" fixes a lot of stuff. The "Vizio" insignia was a bit too bright on the 46", but now on the 47" it dims quite nicely. Perfect for watching dimly lit movies like "Batman Begins", etc. But the 47 won't allow you to freeze the image like the 46 did. And of course, the 46 was 720p. The 47 is 1080p.

The echoing another reviewer mentioned is because the audio in the speaker slightly lags once in a while. But the optical digital audio out is *always* exactly in sync. Thus, the echo. To solve this, simply lower the speaker volume to zero when using your home theater audio system.

If you don't have home theater sound, on rare occasions the speaker audio will lag enough from the actor's lips to be noticeable. This can be fixed by simply turning the set off, waiting to hear the relay click, then turning it back on. Again, this is a rare occurrence and I have one of the very first 47's off the line in the factory. They probably fixed it by now.

By the way, I don't have cable and don't plan to get it. This set works great with off the air signals, also known as "OTA". Most metropolitan markets now have many HD channels OTA. In my market, CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox all have great HD 1080i transmissions. Oh, and I do *not* have a special HD antenna. A regular TV antenna in the attic is pulling in the signals fine. Even channels that are fuzzy on analog come in really clear on digital. HD off-the-air broadcasts come in so lifelike you think are actually there.

I also use an upscaling DVD player to watch DVDs. Upscaled DVDs are not quite HD, I'd say 90% as good. Sometimes, I will watch a movie off-the-air when I already own the DVD, just to get it 1080i.

I would buy this unit again. And the price has dropped considerably since I bought it late last year. I'm still amazed at how good the picture quality is.

Strengths: The price for the picture quality
Weaknesses: not as impressed as some other LCD's I saw at best buy,
Summary: I did alot of research and liked the reviews, I also loved the price for 1080P feature. I have Directv HD with HDMI monster (100$) cable and the HD channels are bright and clear. regular channels seem to be just OK, Not to impressed, overall I am satisfied and would like to get some more info on the video settings, lots of options I am not to sure about. Directv is adding 50 or so more channels in the next week and more to come soon, and if thats the case I will be loving it even more

Strengths: Sleek Exterior Design, Full HD 1080P, Backlit Remote, Input Options, Installation and Setup
Weaknesses: Production Quality
Summary: 2008-03-03 00:30:47 I bought this Vizio 47” LCD TV from Costco. After a week of use, the unit made a loud pop sound like a light bulb exploding and poof no picture. My new HDTV was dead!!! After taking the defective unit back to Costco and getting a new one, I have been using this unit for over a year now with no problems. It seems to be hit or miss with the production quality of this model.

The exterior design of this LCD TV is simply beautiful! It has a sleek gloss black bevel with a silver base and backlit Vizio logo centered on the bottom. I am receiving my local HD channels free OTA with a standard attic antenna. Compared to my old Toshiba 50” Projection Screen TV, the picture quality is amazing!!! The images are bright, crisp and lifelike. The backlit remote has a sensible layout and fits comfortably in hand. There are enough input options to connect my PVR and DVD Player via HDMI, satellite receiver and Sony Playstation II via composite, with plenty of room to grow.

Overall, I have found this Vizio 47" LCD TV well worth the investment if you are ready to make the switch to HDTV.

Strengths: Excellent price for the quality
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I found this tv media to be of excellent quality for the price. It does require that additional cables and components be purchased to fully utilize the capacity of the tv. Several friends have commented on the good quality of picture and the general appeal of the component

Strengths: value priced. 1080P. Nice design. Clear picture.
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: I was concern about the quality of the TV with the low price but after some reseach, I found out the Vizio is one of the top 10 companies making LCD TVs today. My family is soooooo thrilled with this awesome TV.

3 Star ReviewDecent but buggy
Strengths: Styling, 1080p through component inputs in addition to hdmi, VGA doesn't work at 1920x1080 with a PC but works with Xbox 360 at 1080p
Weaknesses: Audio lag, speaker hum, back light hum
Summary: 2007-09-12 15:06:54 This TV has great exterior styling for a off brand TV. The piano black frame is gorgeous. Its picture quality is decent as well. The biggest issues with this set are audio lag (audio, video not syncing), speaker hum, and back light hum that can be heard from over 10ft away. My set is the initial batch bought from Costco when it first came out. Maybe these issues have been ironed out now but check recent posts at avsforum.com as they are very common on this TV even few months after it was released.

Strengths: Beautiful picture, full HD, what more do you need. Why pay extra money for a name. This was worth the money.
Weaknesses: The black could be blacker, if that makes sense. That\\\\\\\'s it. it\\\\\\\'s a good set.
Summary: As stated above, this is a solid LCD for the price. I bought this the same time my folks bought their Toshiba. The Toshiba already has a line through it, which I admit is rare, but.. I didn\'t buy a brand name, and my set has a better picture, and no problems. I recommend this particular Vizio to anyone.

3 Star Reviewadequate 1080p, but quality questionable
Strengths: good price, slick design
Weaknesses: audio not sync with image, bad customer service
Summary: I bought this from costco for good price, and thought to give it a try since it's a non-brand name. Initially I felt it's a good buy, images are clear and bright, it received both cable signal and OTA easily and clear. After 9 months, we found out that audio is not always sync with the image, the audio delay is very noticeable. There are also big pause from time to time in both audio and video when receiving OTA signal, while my other HDTV don't have the problem when I plug them both side by side. The direct call to their customer service to solve those issues is not helpful at all. The customer service insists on the problem comes from my tv signal, even I told them it didn't occur to other tv with the same signal input.

1 Star ReviewI got a lemon
Strengths: It looks great, nice size, when it was working - the picture was great, just like I saw in the store.
Weaknesses: The sound doesn't have reverb settings and overall the sound is not that great even after you adjust it, so have a surround sound to plug into it.
Summary: I bought this TV, took a half a day off of work so I could be here for the delivery. I bought it 10/26, shipping was OK, nothing super fast, but not that slow, especially considering how big the item is. I plug it in and literally 15 minutes later all it would do was flash. After I was talking to customer service for about an hour, the parts were delivered to the repair guy in about 3 days. It is 11/9 and the tech put the parts in this morning, after I took more time off of work because the tech's work the same hours I do, and it still does not work. I called customer service and requested just a whole new unit. I can't keep taking time off of work for something that may or may be the trick to fix it. They told me it would be 10-14 BUSINESS days before I would get the new TV. Let's hope that works, I will update when I get the TV. By the time I get this working it will be about a month of calling, hoping, being without a TV (because I sold my old unit) and wasting vacation time at work. Honestly, even though the price is extremely great, I would have rather spent another 500 dollars and have it work right out of the box, without having to deal with this headache. I have another refurbished Vizio that I never had a problem with. When Vizio first came out they never had any complaints. I have been looking at getting this TV for almost 6 months and I finally decided to get it, even after reading some people's horror stories and...just my luck, I am another to add to the bunch. This mess, along with the sound issue, I would have rather just gotten the Samsung instead of Samsung's offbrand name, Vizio. I hope they start upping the quality in their newer products. This isn't a headache for just me, customer service and the tech's don't have fun dealing with this either. It is much easier and cheaper to have things done right THE FIRST TIME.
