Strengths: This monitor is awesome as the colors are bright and very rich. The native resolution is great for watching videos provided you have a fairly powerful video card. The controls are high tech.
Weaknesses: I have found no weaknesses, however I have read whereby a few people have purchased some monitors that were defective but mine as served up well.
Summary: This monitor can compete with competition and is very user friendly. I don't recommend the speaker bar unless you have a laptop or don't possess a good surround system. This monitor is capable of bringing you into the 21st century and I hope to get many good years out of it. Gateway has come a long way from just a few years ago. I recommend this product with bells on.

Strengths: Bright beautiful colors!
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I've been reluctant to give up my old crt monitors and had gotten used to their 21" size so I wanted a large lcd monitor. Being a Mac person I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted but I am thrilled with this monitor. The touch controls are easy to use and it worked perfect with my 128 meg video card. I don't play games so my limited 128 meg card might impact this aspect but otherwise I couldn't ask for a better monitor. I unpacked it and plugged it in and it worked perfectly right out of the box. Now the only problem is I want two more to replace my other 2 crt's.

1 Star ReviewMy Appalling EXperience Both with Manufacturer and Reseller
Strengths: Bright.
Weaknesses: Accompanying software is incompatible with Vista and Nvidia. Causes immediate freeze and crash. Tech support at all ends failed to provide a solution.
Summary: 2007-06-19 07:00:26 Incompatibility is in fact acknowledged by the manufacturer. A note to that effect reveals itself to you once you have opened the box. The software maker experiments with new versions -- to no avail (at least at this posting).

I happened to purchase this non-calibratable mammoth from Circuit City where the iron rule is -- you "broke the factory seal", you pay 15% restocking fee. My argument that I had bought it in good faith and would have gladly kept it but for the incompatibility was wasted on the staff, both in a local outlet in Maryland and on the phone.

Gateway tech support were a major letdown: arrogant, peremptory and outright ignorant.

A disheartening experience from every possible angle.

Strengths: Closest to 4:3 standard ratio screen size, even though widescreen; Beautiful picture and color rendering
Weaknesses: Would be nice if had lower resolution rates available, like 1024x768
Summary: Nice Picture Overall & good value. So far, no dead pixels have appeared, but can't seem to get it to strech to full-screen size and still have about 2" on either side with black bars.

Strengths: Screen size, brightness, connector compatibility.
Weaknesses: Possible support problems. I have not had to deal with Gateway about the monitor but I have dealt with them about my computer and their support is mediocre at best.
Summary: I have been using this monitor for about a week now and I'm extremely please. It is very bright and the colors look stunning.

The design of the controls "buttons" (they are really just pressure sensitive regions) takes a little getting used to but they work very well.

I really hope to not have to deal with Gateway for support. My experience dealing with them for issues with the PC the monitor came with was very disappointing so I am dreading any type of problem.

1 Star ReviewPiece of garbage
Strengths: It worked for one month past the warranty.
Weaknesses: Once the warranty expires - say bye bye to $700
Summary: Screen started flickering at highest resolution - dumb me just figured it was a glitch, set it at the next resolution down, which worked fine, for a time. Then that resolution started flickering. Called Gateway for support, got someone who didnt speak English, got the runaround, got frustrated and hung up. Set the resolution lower, it worked fine. Monitor warranty expired. One month later, the monitor is unusable.

2 Star ReviewNot too impressed
Strengths: nice picture. nice control panel buttons. great adjusting moniter.
Weaknesses: ocassionally stays black when switching screens. have notcied also generates alot of heat. slow to wake up.
Summary: the weaknesses are pretty fusterating to say the least... like i said the picture is good. the moniter is flexible. i like the control panels. i also like the attachable speakers. but it's really annoying when switching from a game to your desktop and the screen stays black. and i have noticed it generates alot of heat. i was using the moniter one day and all off a sudden it just went black and it wouldn't even get power to it anymore and i had to have it replaced.

2 Star ReviewNegative Review
Strengths: Good quality of image for color photos, fast enough for normal work. Gateway was responsive with issues under warranty.
Weaknesses: Hardware reliability - Returned under warranty 2X to fix problem of slow to "wake up" after sustained inactivity. It can take several min. to get it to "wake up" - Gateway says its an "overheat" prob
Summary: Using this monitor in an government office setting for CAD/Mapping-GIS work. The PC sits idle most of the time which allows the FPD2485 to go into internal hibernation mode - that's where problems begin, when you go to wake it up it wants to keep sleeping - this is the third unit, and has the same problems as the first...

2 Star ReviewCouldn't Live with it
Strengths: Price, Size, Resolution, Optional Speaker bar, software features
Weaknesses: Too bright, blurry text, gradients not smooth, heat
Summary: I picked up this monitor at Best Buy (clearance) for an amazing price. I was also able to get the speaker bar that attaches to the bottom on clearance as well (and though not part of this review, the speaker bar is excellent for its size--much better than Dell's pitiful speaker bars for its flat panel displays).

Anyway I got it home and set it up was pleased--at first. It was amazingly bright which I initially took to be a good thing (figured it would do very well in brightly lit rooms, which it does). However, Gateway didn't see fit to include any adjustment for the backlight level. As a result, using this monitor in any degree of darker room just gets to be fatiguing in short order. I am not usually picky about this kind of stuff but I was getting headaches and eye strain after 10-15 minutes of using this in a darkened room.

Other issues:

-it radiates a lot of heat, no doubt due to the powerful backlight tubes running at full strength 100% of the time.

-text was fuzzy compared to a Dell 2405FP (same panel size and display type)

-gradients do not display well--color and greyscale gradients had very obvious banding that could not be eliminated no matter how the controls were tweaked.

--

Not to take away from the good things--the price was certainly right (and it's not a cheapo TN panel like most inexpensive monitors), the "touch" style controls are nifty and the included software (now that they have fixed the bugs) is really cool. You can pivot the monitor and it will automatically trigger a resolution change in your OS.

I really wanted to like this, but I just could not deal with the visual imperfections (and like I said I am not typically that picky about this kind of thing). I've switched to a Dell 2405FPW and could not be happier. Although it also lacks an adjustable backlight level, its backlight is not nearly as garishly bright as the Gateway's.

I've heard Gateway has switched to glossy TN panels for its 24" successor monitor--yuck. I think with a few tweaks this monitor could have been top notch.

Strengths: Auto-Pivot feature HD resolution
Weaknesses: No HDMI
Summary: I was a bit worried about this monitor considering some mixed reviews, and ordered the 3 year warranty option with it. So far, however, I have been very happy... the screen is very bright, clear, and displays HD, no bad pixels. The pivot feature is very nice, impressive, and actually useful. I have been having a bit of trouble with the monitor finding the DVI signal after the PC's power save feature activates... even after you perform some function on the PC (tap the mouse, hit a key...), the monitor does not re-awaken, and it takes several attempts of turning it on and off repeatedly before the monitor finds the DVI signal again. I've tried turning off the monitor power save feature, and am hoping this will fix... I'll post an update when I can confirm.

Strengths: Brighter then my Intel iMac, tons of connection options, HDCP, components to boot.
Weaknesses: Menu system is a bit odd. Driver issues.
Summary: So far no real big issue, other then the driver malfunction. EzTune drivers are useless with a nVidia card, but the monitor functions just fine with default plug and play drivers and nVidia resolution selector.

Half Life 2 looks amazing. Have yet to try the PIP modes, or anything besides DVI input.
