Good for DVD's Only
Strengths: Cinema sound quality. Crisp and bright with a thunderous bass when watching DVD's
Weaknesses: Lacks mid-range warmth.
Summary: I have this system set up in a room that measures 25'-0 x 30'-0 with a 14 ft. sloped cathedral ceilings. We spend 60-75% of our time listening to music. Everything from Diana Krall, Nora Jones, Eva Cassidy to Steely Dan, Earth-Wind&Fire, Van Halen and even AC/DC. So .. here is my review and thoughts: The cinema sound quality is good especially when used with a 7.1 receiver. The highs are crisp and the lows will shake most small to mid-size rooms. Amazingly, these speakers fill the room. The down-side is that music does not sound good through these speakers. I was one of the first suckers to buy a Bose Acoustimass system and after 10 years of procrastination I decided to upgrade my speakers, ironically these are not much of an upgrade. Actually the Bose speakers, when used with a stereo 10 band graphic equalizer, sound better with CD's than the JBL's. The Bose lacks low-end punch and high-end clarity where the JBL SCS300.7 lack the mid-range warmth. I would not recommend these JBL's to anyone that wishes to listen to music through them. If your primary intention is to use for DVD's then they will fit the bill and I doubt you will find a better Home Theater in a Box system for the price.
