Strengths: Good color, good contrast, fast colorwheel, fine DVD resolution, long bulb life on eco setting, made in Japan.
Weaknesses: Not quite to HDTV resolution, DLP rainbows possible, expensive bulb, short (1 yr) warranty.
Summary: Though the Sharp DT-300 is considered a PAL resolution projector, it does a good job at resizing 480p DVDs. Furthermore, it will give you better resolution from HD sources than the minimal 16:9 rez projectors like the SP 4805 or the H31. It makes a big picture from a short throw, about 100" from less than 9 feet is possible. If you have a long room, don't expect to mount it on a back shelf. The 1.2X zoom doesn't allow a lot of leeway.

Lens shift allows you to adjust vertically without using the vertical keystone (digital) adjustment in most cases. There's no horizontal lens shift, but the extra pixels over the SP 4805 and H31 allow horizontal digital keystone correction without fuzzing the DVD image to speak of, but HD can still suffer some.

The picture is about as bright on low as my Sanyo Z2 is on high, seems to me, and the 4000 hour life at the low setting is good because the bulbs cost about $500 compared to the $300 for the Z1-Z3 bulbs that probably won't last much more than 2000 hours, if that. The lens has a bit of CA and isn't as sharp at the edges, but it is hard to tell when you are far enough back to not see SDE/pixels.

The color is good right out of the box and is easy to tweak to perfection. There's good contrast and little rainbow effect with the 5X colorwheel. The remote control is nice except that it doesn't have backlit keys, though they will glow in the dark for awhile if you expose them to bright light.

Overall, it's a good entry level projector for up to about $2000, but the $4300 list is too much, IMO.
