Strengths: Hard hitting, clean bass. Shakes the house when needed, subtle when wanted.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I had heard a lot of reputation from Velodyne subwoofers before, so I went to Circuit City to test them out. I was looking for something that provided clean hard-hitting bass, since I came from car audio, and a lot of what makes good bass from that is from the way you mount/install it. If you didn't do it right, or you had a poor car to start with (something with non-optimal trunk space), it just sounded too boomy or nasty. So after doing lots of reviews on this sub, checking it out at Circuit City, and then getting a good recommendation from a friend who's dad had a setup with it, I went ahead and bought this.
Wow, incredible. It did all that I wanted plus, it begs to be turned up. Music sounds incredibly awesome with this subwoofer. You can clearly distinguish the different low frequency levels. The bass hits loud, clean, and is not boomy (you know the terrible drone that some subwoofers have). Playing movies on it is like sitting in a theatre. On high settings, it vibrates my couch, and I've already had a complaint at my apartment within a week of owning this, lol. You will definitely feel the explosions and other subtle bass hits that you never heard in those past movies you saw before. It adds another dimension to your listening experience and brings out the realism of the dvd. Velodyne also offers a 12" sub that I also checked out at Circuit City. Also incredible if you can justify the extra money, but for an apartment, the 10" sub is already more powerful than you can handle. (make sure you match this up with an excellent receiver that can output the power levels you want).
