Strengths: Great bass in a subwoofer. Controls up front and easy to set.
Weaknesses: No automatic on/off control. No remote
Summary: If you are looking for an updated digital subwoofer, this is the one to get.
It produces great bass in a small footprint. It's extremely easy to set up. Just plug in your LFE cable and set your crossover and volume levels and you're ready to go. The controls (except for the crossover setting) is up front and can be accessed with the touch of a button. The panel lights can be adjusted if you find them distracting.
For such a high-end sub, you would have expected Velodyne to put in an automatic on/off setting. With such a feature when the receiver or amplfier sends a bass signal to the sub, it automatically turns on. When the signal is absent it turns itself off. With the DPS-10, you have to manually turn the unit on or off.
The only other drawback is that for its price point, Velodyne does not supply a remote.
If you have a medium-sized room, this 10" sub will do the trick. If you have a large home theater, you may want to to with Velodyne's DPS-12 model for $100 more.
There are cheaper subs out there. But if you want a quality state-of-the-art subwoofer, the DPS-10 is it!
