I got this straightener as a gift though so I figured I might as well give it a shot. It's 2" as opposed to most straighteners that are only 1" so it covers more hair quicker and it really works well. I can straighten my hair in almost as much time as it takes me to difuse it when I wear it curly. Now I think I wear it straight more often! Em. Summary: The Farouk CHI definitely does not compare to even a drug store $35 straightener. Not only did the paint on the straightener start to peel off within weeks, I have gone through many straighteners around $35-40 that were 100 times better than this. I used the drug store straighteners everyday with out any heat protecting sprays, and my hair was still shiny and healthy, but with the Farouk CHI, it left my hair damaged, dry, and weak even with heat protecting spray. Summary: I was very disappointed when i received this item to find that it was not the real deal. I plugged it in to compare how it works. It is nothing like the real chi and it does not leave the glossy finish that the real one does, nor are the results as lasting. Weaknesses: Velvet on outside of straightener can makes hair frizzy if not conditioned properly Summary: I was leary to spend this amount of money on a hair straightener, but after using this just a couple of times I strongly feel that it was worth the money. I have thick hair that is several inches below my shoulders. It is somewhat straight already, but I do have a few kinky pieces. I used a medium setting and worked great, in less time then previous straighteners I have used and my hair seemed softer. I could tell the difference between the CHI and other inferior models I have previously used. It was a smooth ride, I didn't feel like my hair was getting stuck between the plates!!
