Strengths: Rebates make the price attractive, enough features for most users, DVD burner and flash memory slots
Weaknesses: Bad factory settings, only 512mb of memory, plastic front cover
Summary: This PC is definitely worth it as an entry-level computer. As mentioned before, the factory cooling settings are atrocious, as if emachines thought you were planning on bbqing on the cpu! Once that is adjusted in BIOS, all is as quiet as you could hope for. I added another 512mb of RAM and lag is no longer an issue. Overall, would buy again.

Pretty a good PC in general, recommend
Strengths: price is inexpensive, considering "enormous" rebate offers. if you can find a deal, that will definitely be worth it.
quality is acceptable. relatively quiet and stable. Dual-layer DVD-RW a plus.
Weaknesses: Harddisk sometimes noisy. Default memory is insufficient; the onboard Video Card eats up some portion of the 512MB memory. Sometimes the system lags with high computational tasks. Not stylish, though.
Summary: In general, I recommend this PC. I bought this PC with a huge discount, which makes it really a sweet deal. However, given its listed price $445, it does not seem that attractive to me. So the suggestion is, if you can grab one under $300, then go ahead; otherwise you may want to compare it with other alternatives.
Currently quite a few retailers are having the promotion involving the bundle of T5048, eMachine Monitors and some printers. If you really want to get this PC, consider that bundle option. It's sometimes even cheaper than the listed price of T5048. Mine was only $349 after rebate at Office Depot.

Strengths: Intel Pentium 4 processor 524 with Hyper-Threading Technology, operating at 3.06GHz
Weaknesses: only comes with 512MB of PC3200 DDR SDRAM.
Summary: I got this for 150.00 after rebate. eventhough this is emachine which have not such a good rep. I think they have improved since being combine with gateway. For the price i paid for I cannot complaint anything.but for the suggested retail of 400.00 I would look at other brand

Good Budget Desktop from eMachines
Strengths: Great Price , Good processor with HyperThreading, Dual Layer DVD writer, just Ok media Card Reader.
Weaknesses: Bad factory setting for System Fans. Just 512MB ram is not sufficeient. integrated video eats 128MB of the memory. Thus it shows 384MB memory for Applications.
Summary: I got this system a two weeks ago and am fine with its performance. It is a Budget Desktop for your day to day task as surfing the net and basic desktop productivity. It has a some scope to expand but you need a new Power Supply if you add a power hungry component such as a video card. It comes with 512MB ram which might not be quite sufficient. It is nice to have another 512MB memory stick in it to make it 1GB. It takes a DDR3200 or PC400 ram stick and there are two slots for the memory , one is occupied with the 512MB. You can add another Hard drive to the System as there is a slot available The system comes configured so that the system fan runs all the time and it sound like a aircraft taking off. This can be fixed by a simple switch in the BIOS Setting to "optimal Setting" and the System becomes quieter. Overall the system is nice for the price

Strengths: Pentium HT processor
Free Vista Upgrade
Double Layer DVD writer
Media Card Read
Windows Media Center Edition
Cheap and attractive price
Weaknesses: Less video RAM
No TV Tuner card though comes with Windows Media Center Edition
Comes preloaded with lot of unnecessary softwares, pain to uninstall
Summary: I had used Athlon PC before and very satisfied with it, but for a change I wanted to buy a Media Center Edition PC and bought this one. Performance wise Athlon is the best from my experience.
But this comes with Free Vista Upgrade and Double Layer DVD writer which is a plus. And easy and conveniently located card readers if you want to download the photos from digital camera frequently.
Less video RAM is kind of less for those who wants to play games. Usually Windows Media Center Edition PCs will come with build it TV tuner card to watch TV channels through the PC, but surprisingly this doesn't have it.
Another annoying thing is this preloaded with lot of unnecessary softwares which I had uninstall manually, and if you want to load the OS again then you have to go through the same pain again.
But would recommend for casual users.

Summary: great price for all inclusive computer . emachines have come a
long way. the media center feature is great for so many applications
such as tv and music recording and mixing. has built in media reader

Strengths: Great Price , Good processor, Dual Layer DVD writer Reader.
Weaknesses: System Fans sometimes noisy. Just 512MB ram is not sufficeient.
Summary: I bought a new T5048 E-machine because of the good experience with the last Emachine. The good thing about the T5048 is the Pentium 4, the PCI Express expansion and the price of course. Needs a memory upgrade to be fully ready for Vista, but other than that it works great. It is very quiet and has almost as many features as our HP that costs 7 times as much. I would recommend adding another 512 mb ddr sdram 400mhz to boost the performance. apparently 128 mb of the ram goes to power the graphics.

Strengths: Less Expensive, Quality is good, Dual Layer DVD writer...
Weaknesses: No comments
Summary: it has a DVD burner and a media card reader, and its 160GB hard drive offers more storage room than we expected. Compare this model to HP's $400 Compaq Presario SR1910NX, and this latest member of the eMachines family definitely supplies better features for your dollar. this one loses part of its 512MB RAM stash to the freeloading integrated video adapter. It's also hard to get behind the T5048 because systems with dual-core CPUs, such as eMachines own T5212, cost slightly more than $100 more. If all you want is a means for getting online and using basic productivity and digital media apps, the T5048 will get you where you want to go, with better-than-average features. Just know that you can find a better value if you spend a little more. It is much better equipped to stand the test of time. The design of the eMachines T5048 inside and out is decidedly bland, but even the low-cost good looks of Apple's Mac Mini haven't made it as low as the sub-$500 market yet. Inside, there's room for one more memory stick, a couple of PCI expansion cards, a x16 PCI Express slot for a discrete graphics card, and an x1 PCI Express slot to boot. I admit i were surprised that this system still has an IDE hard drive interface. I'd hoped I'd seen the last of case-cluttering ribbon cables. Apparently not.
eMachines service and support is not as robust as others' in the desktop industry, but it's not awful, and the cuts the company has made likely help keep costs down.

Not bad
Strengths: Works well. CPU is fast. Low noise. No crash down. Some parts are upgradeable. Convenient card slots on the front
Weaknesses: Inter BIOS cannot be adjusted. Ram is small. Motherboard design is too simple to support better performance.
Summary: 2007-02-13 21:57:40 I bought this computer just for my project. It is a deal considering the setups and performance. The CPU was very popular in the past and it is enough to support my simulation work. The ram is too small to ran a VISTA on it, I doubt, though it says it is VISTA capable. And it does not support dual channel design of most of the popular rams. And the two slots are too close and I have to add one more fan to spread the heat after I installed the new ram.
Intel bios keeps me from doing some overclocking on the ram. It is OK right with my working. Some parts are upgradeable. But there are limited slots there for you to do something more on it. If you are gamer, perhaps this is not a good choice for you. But I just use it for my work and I am happy with it: the noise is low; it has not crashed down, except for a bad ram on it. Not bad!

FALSELY ADVERTISED MEMORY TECHNOLOGY-AD SAYS DDR2, ONLY COMES WITH DDR
Strengths: Cheap
Weaknesses: what nominal memory it comes with, in the form of the out dated DDR, is eaten up in part by Video
Summary: eMachines advertises this computer as coming equipped "DDR2" memory TECHNOLOGY when it doesnt even have "DDR2" memory technology capability. After being made aware of this by their tech support person and then calling and sending numerous emails, their response is to send day after day apology emails stating the exact same thing, offering additional apologies now for me for three weeks, continually stating they are working on a solution, but they are doing absolutely nothing and I'm certain will not. We're not talking about a keyboard or mouse. The DDR2 memory technology is a "MAJOR" component on a computer and a major upgrade from the somewhat out dated DDR memory this computer comes with "AND" wait until you attempt to upgrade to Windows Vista to really feel the degredation in performance from this computer having merely DDR memory. Simply do a search for comparison or differences between DDR and DDR2 memory and you will see what it was anyone who has purchased this computer will be missing out on. Just a warning, this is only one item I happened to identify, so who knows what really comes in these computers and what they are equipped with. My personal recommendation, regardless of their being purchased by Gateway, is to stay as far away from e-Machine as possible for just about all your computer needs.
