3 Star ReviewHack and slash for the PS3
Strengths: Sometimes everyone just needs a little hack and slash time, three character classes, online cooperative play
Weaknesses: Graphics aren't up to par with what's out there today, gameplay is your typical hack and slash
Summary: Ever heard of that TV show "Veronica Mars"? The character Veronica Mars was played by actress Kristen Bell. The show was cancelled and Bell ended up on the TV show "Heroes". That got me curious about the old "veronica Mars" shows, which I had always heard were critically acclaimed but had never bothered to watch. Turns out it really was a good show and one which, in my opinion, did not deserve its cancellation, though, yes, I know my not watching it when it was originally airing certainly didn't help it. Well, the first time I saw this game "Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" being played was on one of the Veronica Mars episodes. It was a short clip of it being played but made me want to give it a try. It is a hack and slash game, following the usual hack and slash formula. In other words: follow map, kill enemies, pick up "currency" icons, upgrade weapons, follow map, kill more enemies, repeat until you come across a "boss" character, kill "boss" character to go to next level, repeat the cycle for the next level. However, I knew this was what to expect going into this game. All hack and slash are pretty much like this, from "Diablo" to "Champions of Norrath". This was a PS3 launch title, so, while the graphics are slightly better than on a PS2 game and the characters are larger on-screen than, say, those of "Champions of Norrath" on the PS2, this game is definitely not taking advantage of the PS3's capabilities. There are three character classes to choose from: your typical barbarian warrior (best fighter type), your typical spellcasting mage (best spell type), and your typical character type that is between the two (tries to balance fighting and spells). When you defeat enemies, you collect their spirits or whatever, which you exchange at save points to upgrade your armor, weapons and special moves/spells (there are no actual shops and merchants in this game). There are different combos you learn as the game progresses, which are performed through series of button combinations. There are "bosses" to fight, and the game can get a bit challenging at times when playing it alone. The game's campaign can be played cooperatively by multiple players on the same screen, or you can take it online and have multiple players play cooperatively from their separate PS3's. That is something no previous Playstation hack and slash could do. In summary, I've played this game for a few days and I think it does a fair job of scratching that hack and slash itch for the PS3 for now.

3 Star ReviewUntold Legends: Dark Kingdom for PlayStation 3 (PS3)
Strengths: (1) Cooperative play via same screen or online
Weaknesses: (1) Repetitive (2) No voice chat over online (3) Not next-gen quality graphics
Summary: Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom for PlayStation 3 provides a mindless kind of fun when playing with a friend online or in the same room. There really isn't much to the game other than the basic hack-n-slash formula established in the PSP entries. There are three character types to choose from and you progress linearly from the basic enemies to a boss character and repeat. There is added fun in the camaraderie of working together with a buddy but as a single-player game, this one will get stale quickly.

3 Star ReviewUntold Legends: Dark Kingdom
Strengths: hack 'n slash
Weaknesses: button smashing
Summary: Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom is essentially a hack and slash game that was one of the launch titles for the Playstation 3. Its graphics was great at the time of launch but now becomes dated comparing to the newer PS3 games. In gameplay there is not much of a difference from other Untold Legends games. There will be lots of button smashing in this game. Repetition could be an issue. If you enjoy previous Untold Legends, we will like this one with the more refined graphics. It's worth a rental now.

3 Star ReviewUntold Legends: Dark Kingdom (PS3)
Strengths: Hack and slash game, online play
Weaknesses: Repetitive
Summary: Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom is one of the launch titles for the PS3 system. It is a good hack and slash game for the next-gen system. It is similar to the Untold Legends games on the PSP but with improved graphics. However, this graphics is subpar comparing to the newer generations of PS3 games.

This game is now greatly shadowed by the newer games. However, if you need a good hack and slash game for mindless fun, pick this game up when it's cheap.

3 Star ReviewGeneric hack-and-slash RPG available at PS3 launch. . .
Strengths: Untold Legends on PS3, system's first action RPG, multiplayer support, solid soundtrack, free online play, nice cover art
Weaknesses: Lackluster visuals, repetitive combat, linear game play, limited armor/weapons upgrades, no voice support
Summary: Sony's Untold Legends series saw two installments on the PSP prior to Dark Kingdom's release on the PS3. While the series has a solid action RPG standing on the PSP, it's latest outing on the PS3 does nothing to showcase the system's superior hardware capabilities, and genre fans will quickly be left wanting more than Dark Kingdom can offer.

Dark Kingdom is a generic action role-playing game with you filling in the role of an elite guard member in a kingdom quickly overcome by evil. While the game can be cut some slack for being a PS3 launch title, the game play provides a fairly generic hack and slash experience for its 10-12 hours of play time and offers nothing players haven't seen before.

For its initial $60 retail price, Dark Kingdom was hard to recommend, but at a more reasonable $20 (or lower) price, this game offers much better value for your money. The developer really should have put more effort into differentiating this release on the next-generation PS3 hardware. As it stands, Dark Kingdom looks and plays like little more than an above average PS2 game.

3 Star ReviewUntold Legends Dark Kingdom
Strengths: Decent next-gen upgrade to the original PSP titles
Weaknesses: Not that much of an upgrade considering the power of the PS3. This was decent for a launch title but somewhat lacking now. Combat is repetitive.
Summary: 2008-06-28 04:10:41 Untold Legends Dark Kingdom was Sony's big action-RPG launch title for the Playstation 3. Sticking fairly close to the formula of the PSP Untold Legends games this is a hack-n-slash affair. As before, you can choose one of three character types (warrior, mage, scout). Each one has a slightly different character arc, adding some replayability. Also, they have added some variety to the gameplay by adding more puzzle elements to the relentless action. The graphics, of course, are greatly improved over the PSP games but many other PS3 games have surpassed this title since it was released so it doesn't have quite the sheen it had a year and a half ago. The game also features online play where you can adventure with 3 other people and save the progress to your single-player campaign. Unfortunately, the one area they did not attempt to improve is the core gameplay which consists of fairly mindless button pressing combat. This is a decent enough game for fans of the action RPG genre and can be found fairly cheap right now.

Strengths: A very good hack and slash game
Weaknesses: Camera angle sometimes is not very good
Summary: This is a great hack and slash ps3 game. The sound and grahpic are great. If you like this kind of game, you won't get bored. The art degisn, animation effects, and action are great and can get your attention all the time. it does have a camera angle issue when you get close to an object.

Strengths: Co-Op Online play
Weaknesses: Gets to be repetitive.
Summary: One of the first games at PS3 launch. I am a carryover fan from the PSP. Graphics are not mind blowing but it carries well. Would of liked a fourth character just like the PSP games. Basically, I bought this game because of the co-op capability. My brother who lives across the country has this game and we get online often. This feature works great. Having voice chat would add enormously, even though I need to explore this third party Xfire option in detail. Since the game has been on the market for awhile, I was able to get it cheaper than other PS3 games and definitely don't regret it.

3 Star ReviewA Hit N Miss RPG
Strengths: Good visuals & music, Online play
Weaknesses: Repetetive gameplay
Summary: This is one of the launch titles for PS3 & really comes out as an average RPG.

Combat gets dull in first hour or so but there are some nice graphics supported by above average music. Levelling up your characters does not take much time for skilled players. There is no replay value as there are no exciting modes to unlock after you finish

The fact that the game is now available at bargain price makes it worth trying. You might get some fun in bits & pieces especially if you play online, but don't expect any ground breaking stuff here

2 Star ReviewDK
Strengths: Hack and slash game
Weaknesses: The storyline is kind of slow, but it's still interesting. You will see blood in this game, and you will have to fight a lot. You can't run from some battles in this game.
Summary: This game is pretty decent, if you don't mind the old school graphics. The storyline in itself is interesting and you have to figure out things on your own in the game as well as fight while doing so. However, if you're looking for top notch graphics you're not going to get them in this game. But, if you're like me and grew up playing atari, then you won't mind the graphics. The storyline is kind of slow, but it's still interesting. You will see blood in this game, and you will have to fight a lot. You can't run from some battles in this game.

3 Star Reviewmindless button mashing fun!
Strengths: -Nice graphics -fun upgradeable spells
Weaknesses: -repeatitive gameplay
Summary: classic game of warrior, rogue or mage. It feels like a game from when i was a child. Anyway, you get to play one of 3 characters with the warrior being the strongest, rogue the fastest and the mage the heaviest hitting albeit lightly armored.

The game is nonstop buttong mashing and as you progress up the ranks, you get bigger and better spells or abilities. My favorite was the mage since no regular mob could get close enough to me to damage me. Little actual replay value once you've beaten the game but if you want a relaxing weeking of just vegging, this might be the game for you as it certainly instills nostalgia from the games of days long gone. All in all, still an entertaining game.

Strengths: Great graphics. Fun gameplay. Fantastic price for a PS3 game.
Weaknesses: Graphics are kind of glitchy at times. And as others have mentioned, fighting/combat is kind of repetitive.
Summary: Having just gotten a PS3 six months ago, I was and still am looking to expand my ps3 video game collection. Trailer that I have seen for this game looked good, and when I saw a great price, I just had to pick this up. Not the best, but fun!

3 Star ReviewThe Best Action RPG Out There
Strengths: Easy to pick up, fun factor, 4 players action for the PS3. Can be bought for a decent price.
Weaknesses: Gets repetitive at times.
Summary: This is one of PS3 launch titles, and this game might be considered old. But there\\\\\\\'s still a good fun factor especially if you\\\\\\\'re looking for good 4 player action. Graphics are alright and the different moves you gain as you progress in the game are awesome. The game can be bought for under $30 easily. Somewhat good replay value if you\\\\\\\'re into these sorta action RPG type games. A definite buy if you can find this for $20 or less.

Strengths: Graphics, simple gameplay/controls
Weaknesses: Can get a little monotonous
Summary: Call me crazy. this game is fun for me, even though it's really just the same repetitive plot stacked on top of itself. There aren't enough puzzles to make the puzzles any fun, so it's pretty much just 'wander around, kill stuff with the same combos each time, collect stuff, level up... repeat'. The final battle was kinda stupid and I only seem to have managed to win it because of a glitch, but that didn't really detract the overall experience.

I'd say if this kind of adventure game is your style, you'll probably enjoy it. If you can't handle the 'button-mashers' then you should probably stay away from this. I'm giving it 4 stars because I enjoyed the game quite a bit.
