1 Star Reviewawful
Strengths: none
Weaknesses: difficult to install/configure.
Summary: hard coded links in error messages that include error numbers go to dead pages on symantecs website, and the error numbers are in none of their documentation or website. upgrading from 10d, with vista and xp machines, is way way way more complicated and sketchy than it should be. THe documentation is sprawling but does not explain much. Took hours of poring to find anything.

1 Star ReviewBackup Exec 11d leaves a lot to be desired
Strengths: Good features in theory
Weaknesses: Doesn't work most of the time, support is terrible.
Summary: Claimed features do not work well if at all. Very buggy still and backups fail constantly. Symantec's support of this product is horrible. Everything is done out of India. Technicians are hard to get a hold of, even on priority calls, and when you do get a hold of them, they are difficult to understand (not to mention arrogant). See for yourself on Symantec's own support forums:

Strengths: Easy to install, easy to patch, easy to setup jobs and perform backups, good hardware support, Windows Server 2008 and Exchange 2007 (with agent) backups are supported, best version yet
Weaknesses: Can be overwhelming at first for inexperienced technicians, agents are very expensive (exchange, SQL, etc.)
Summary: Having used Backup Exec since version 8.x this latest version is by far the best one yet. I support over 30 non-profit organizations, each with a server and a fully configured AD domain, and Backup Exec is the only backup product I suggest that my customers buy and use (having used ARCserve, NT backup, etc.) As the guy who has to support each installation of this product at my various client sites, I have no reservations suggesting Backup Exec 11d to those needing a reliable enterprise backup solution.
