Strengths: Excellent sound quality, solid construction, perfect match for any CAVIT outboard sound card, great price.
Weaknesses: Frustrating mounting plate assembly, somewhat large for desktop speakers, really needs to be paired with a sub.
Summary: I purchased these speakers to go along with my AP-U70 (incredible sound card), and overall am very pleased with them. The sound quality is excellent, however it doesn't really have any bass response. Imagine what something would sound like from a good 3 inch cone and tweeter, and that's what you've got. Combined with a sub, you've got one excellent system.
The included speaker stands that tilt the speakers to the same angle as any CAVIT sound card are rather annoying to put on. The screws needed to install are shorter than the gap in the plate, so unless you have a magnetic-tipped screwdriver, I guarantee you will drop a few screws in the plate, and then have to take the time to shake them out. This of course, really has nothing to do with performance, and once its done, who cares?
I recommend these speakers more for high-quality music lovers and writers, rather than gamers. Game music and sound effects aren't usually of the highest quality and sound a bit harsh sometimes. If you're an audiophile and all your mp3's are at least 192, then these are the speakers for you. I use mine in my office, as they play extremely clearly and accurate, even at low volumes, and don't have any overpowering bass (or really any at all).
I paid $25 for these from buy.com, after a $25 rebate.
