Summary: It took me almost 2 years to find a solution getting this printer to work with XP. Because of all that frustration, here's what you should do:

1) Call customer support & say you have the cover open problem with your 1100L and XP.

2) They exchange a 1250 printer for your 1100L for FREE!

3) Spread the word!

Strengths: Crisp, Clear text Fast

Weaknesses: Expensive toner and drum, Not compatible with XP

Summary: Does not work with Windows XP. Gives a "cover open" error message. As stated by someone else if you call their support line they will immediately replace with a new 1250W printer. The 1250W however uses the same drum and toner cartridges. They want you to keep your own cartridges and send back the 1100L empty. I then mentioned that the drum had only lasted through one toner cartridge (toner should be 3000 pages, drum 20,000) and they sent me a new drum and toner cartridge as well.

The time this Minolta-QMS 1100L has cost me in try ...

Strengths: convenient size, speed when it actually prints

Weaknesses: not compatible with XP Professional

Summary: The time this Minolta-QMS 1100L has cost me in trying to coax it to actually print makes it an extremely expensive printer. After months, no proper drivers have been discovered. A computer techie and another friend have also blown considerable time in the search/"make-do" effort. Sites advertising new or re-built cartridges are next to non existent. Never have I found a place advertising lazer toner. This is becoming the worst investment I could have made. If or when correct drivers are made available for use with XP Professional in the U.S., maybe, if I still have it, my Minolta-QMS 1100L will print.

First few print jobs went through flawlessly, but ...

Strengths: Crisp text, duplex capability, small footprint

Weaknesses: Windows 2000 driver is unstable.

Summary: First few print jobs went through flawlessly, but then started getting "cover open" error messages causing print job to stop after first page. Re-loaded and re-installed driver, but no go. Tech support had log of possible fixes (indicating the problem had been reported bu others), but none worked. Had to return printer to vendor.
