Strengths: Light weight, easy to use, good battery life
Weaknesses: only one I can think of is that you have to reset the time after charging battery and not so good in low light levels
Summary: I have really enjoyed this camera. I have a Cannon Rebel that I use and bought this for my wife for ease of use as she does not want to mess with all the settings. This camera has performed well and takes great pictures. Even the kids can use this camera and take great pictures.

Strengths: Very good zoom, Quality is excellent, It is really easy to view pictures and battery last long, it's amazing
Weaknesses: the toggle button is the only really bad thing about this camera, its a little bulky though
Summary: This camera is good for very general picture taking and I like the fact that it has so many diffrent formats, It is good for videos when its around bright light, I reccomend this camera for people who are just getting used to digital photography.

Strengths: great picture & lens quality, fast click-to-capture & flash, excellent light management, light-weight, easy & comfortable to handle, perfect shots in automatic mode, great battery life, EASY TO USE!
Weaknesses: not great for low-light outdoor settings in auto mode (what camera is?), zoom control less intuitive than predecessor (DX6440), popular “scene” settings no longer on mode dial
Summary: Anyone shopping for a 3MP to 5MP digital camera should seriously consider the Kodak DX7440.
High on my list of priorities was a fast click-to-capture, long battery life, a relatively wide-angle lens, and easy-to-use controls. In short, I wanted a camera that could stand in for my Nikon SLR yet fit in my pocket.
The 7440 delivers! The lens (33-132mm equivalent) is not quite as wide-angle as some I tested (such as the Canon S60, the Olympus 5060, two Nikons, a Fuji, and others), but the Kodak is cheaper, easier to use, and has several superior features. First, it's the only camera I tested that could shoot the next picture while the automatic review was still showing the prior picture (other cameras require you to wait until the prior picture has cleared the LCD screen). Second, the click-to-capture is fast--no waiting 1 or 2 seconds for the camera to capture the image (while your 3-yr old has already turned his head), and the flash reloads just as fast. Third, the camera has 32MB of flash memory built in, which is handy if you need a little extra memory in a pinch. Fourth, the camera is extremely intuitive.
Most importantly, the camera takes flawless pictures in auto. mode (except outdoors in low light--a common problem for all cameras). You can compensate for this by using the "night landscape" and "night portrait" scene settings; the shutter stays open a bit longer, but I've been able to take great shots this way without a tripod--no blurring! It manages light perfectly--you need not select the "backlighting" scene mode to compensate for bright sun through a window behind your subjects; I have tried auto and backlighting mode for the same shot and can see no difference. And the macro (close-up) mode allows extremely close shots (up to 4").
If you want a camera that takes great photos--especially indoors (thanks to its excellent light management and wide-angle lens)--and is simple for anyone to use, yet has full manual capabilities and professional quality lens, make sure you take a long look at this camera. Kodak may not get the respect it deserves from camera "experts," but my 7440 takes far better pictures (especially in tricky lighting) than my neighbor's Canon PowerShot S60.

Strengths: User friendly buttons, long lasting battery time, will record movies with sound
Weaknesses: One downside to the camera is that if you take the battery out of the camera for longer than a few minutes the date/time gets reset and the camera will prompt you to set it the next time you turn it on.
Summary: The Kodak DX7440 digital camera is an excellent choice for anyone who wants a user friendly mid-range digital camera. The features of this camera abound. Excellent picture quality, big 2.2 inch LCD screen that is visible even in bright light, and review/delete buttons right on the camera make it a pleasure to use. The rechargeable battery lasts longer than conventional AA batteries, and even higher capacity batteries are available. Overall I would recommend this camera to anyone from a beginner to intermediate digital camera user.

Strengths: Easy to use, little more zoom and larger view screen then most camera's in this price range, a lot of picture taking features.
Weaknesses: I agree with most of the weakness already listed here: not the best with dark indoor photos, date and time get reset when you take the battery out, cant change zoom while recording.
Summary: This is my 1st digital camera; I think it’s a great camera for the beginner at this price. I was able to take it out of the box install the batteries and start clicking away. Also, still have many features that I have not gotten into yet.
I would suggest getting a camera bag and at least a 256-memory card right away. The internal memory can only hold about 20 photos at 4MP, with the 256 card it went to 191 photo's. I bought a Kodak camera bag for $13 and a 256M Kingston SD memory card for $9 (after rebate)

Strengths: Excellent optical viewfinder with diopter adjustment, 4X zoom,very fast "shudder" speed, easy controls, top quality lens
Weaknesses: date has to be reset after recharging battery - but no big deal
Summary: I've had this camera for 4 months and still love it. I checked out Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Olympus,etc. but had trouble seeing out of their low quality optical viewfinders. I did not want to use the LCD screen because it uses too much power and more importantly you can't keep the camera steady enough to take a good picture when holding it out to see the screen. This camera has a relatively large optical viewfinder that is exceptionally clear and has a diopter control so you can adjust it to your eyesight. Another great feature is its very fast operation. Other digital cameras have a noticeable and irritating delay between pressing the shutter and the actual picture capture. The DX 7440 has only a .2 sec delay which is close to instantaneous. The zoom reacts to its controls very quickly - which other brands do not. Also the 4x zoom is a nice improvement over the pack of imports which offer only 3x zoom. (I never use the digital zoom - neither should you). In spite of what you may have read from other reviewers, I have found that the battery lasts a long time. (That may be because I don't use the lcd screen to take my photos). On my vacation to the National Parks in UtaH and Arizona, I recharged every other night whether I needed to or not and did not come close to running out of juice- and I took 450 photos and 10 videos over 10 days. - and by the way the recharging device is small- easily fits in the suitcase and recharges in 1 1/2 hours. You would definitely be wasting money buying an extra battery. I actually like this battery over an AA or AAA because its more compact.
The controls are easy to use and the LCD screen is large enough to actually see something when reviewing your pictures. The size of the camera is just right and it fits in my hands comfortably. The camera is not as tiny as the competition, but it will still fit in you pocket (even though the experts will tell you not to put it there).
The lens is top quality and I have received many compliments on my pictures - not just snapshots but 8x10s.
Kodak software is easy to use and pictures download in a jiff.
I don't think you would go wrong buying this camera and I am a little disturbed by the specialty store (Ritz) salesmen who tried to steer me away from kodak. They must get a better commission from the other brands.

Strengths: Excellent quality photos, large view screen, very fast response time to take picture, great zoom, NOT an electronic viewfinder (EVF) and relatively lightweight.
Weaknesses: Just OK quality videos, can't change zoom during video mode, requires special battery (not AA) and physically larger than many newer model cameras.
Summary: This camera replaces an old Kodak digital camera with 2.0 megapixels. The DX7440 takes fantastic pictures even in standard mode. The higher resolution "fine" mode seems only slightly clearer and not worth using up the memory card for the minimally better picture. Very quick to take pictures, shut off and turn on. Very light for it's size, but for this excellent zoom, I can forgive the size. The batteries seem to last a very long time on a charge, but it would have been nice if you could use normal rechargeable AA batteries.
I don't like all the newer digital cameras with the electronic viewfinder (EVF) and this one doesn't use it. What you see is what you get (WYSIWYG). None of this "blackout" in the viewfinder while you take a picture and no viewing delay while zooming in and out. This may be one of the last higher zoom digital cameras without the EVF.
While not meant to be a camcorder, the weakest point is the video mode. The video in the best mode is a bit grainy, not bad, but grainy compared to my camcorder. Also, the zoom can't be adjusted while in video mode. This is a minor issue, but annoying.
Overall, it's a keeper. For the price (I paid less than $270.), it's an awesome camera. This might be the last digital camera you'll ever buy, unless you drop it or dunk it underwater.

Strengths: THE CAMERA IS EASY TO USE. THE LCD SCREEN ON THE CAMERA IS LARGE AND EASY TO READ, EVEN WITHOUT MY GLASSES. THE CAMERA IS LIGHT, AND HAS A GREAT ZOOM. SO FAR, THE PICTURES HAVE COME OUT GREAT.
Weaknesses: THE BATTERY THAT COMES WITH THE CAMERA LASTED FOR ONLY A SHORT TIME.
Summary: AS A NOVICE CAMERA USER, I RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE. IT IS EASY TO USE AS THE SOFTWARE WALKS YOU THROUGH ALL PHASES; FROM TAKING THE PICTURE TO PRINTING.

Strengths: It takes the picture at the same time the button is pushed, no delay.
Weaknesses: The camera manual projects a faster use of the energy in the battery pack, supposedly caused by the high resolution screen which was a desired feature of the camera.
Summary: I purchased this camera for the rechargable battery pak, the high resolution screen, reasonable price, and ease of using the camera while taking pictures. My use of the camera has been more than satisfactory. I also really like the speed of response when the button is pushed to take a picture. The only disappointment has been the projected life of the battery pak. I was told that it was due to the high resolution screen which is a priority for me.

Strengths: Very easy to use with auto everything, but also has some manual controls for those who want to use them. Great battery life so far!
Weaknesses: Haven't found any yet.
Summary: I purchased this camera after my first very basic Kodak digital camera was broken by my son(a blessing in disguise). This is definitely an upgrade and I love the camera. It takes beautiful pictures automatically for amateurs like me. It also has some manual controls that I intend to learn about in the future for different light conditions, scenes, etc. The shape and feel of it are really nice too. The Easyshare software that comes with it is great and the Li-ion battery lasts a long time, much longer than the Ni-MH in my last camera. It's very easy to transfer pictures with the usb cable, but I eventually ended up buying the dock for this camera because I had it for my other one and was spoiled by it. It just takes the steps out of hooking it up every time and removing the battery to charge it. It does it all in one step and I just like the simplicity. Close-up lenses can be purchased for it too if you want to photograph very small objects, which I do, so that's a definite plus for me. I have used it quite a bit so far and can't find any negatives. I would definitely recommend it!

Summary: This is a great camera for the money. I espeicially like the larger bright display. Although it has many features to master, it's pretty easy to use right out of the box without too much trouble. The little joy stick control is really handy. I am going to get the optional dock which will make transfers to the computer easier and it will also charge the battery.

Summary: The Kodak DX-7440 is a very well priced digital camera that not only is very easy to use, but also produces excellent digital photos. It is certainly a step ahead from the older line of Kodak so-so digital cameras.
The Kodak DX-7440 produces surprisingly well detailed and very clear 4mp digital photos. This digital camera is very easy to use and it is suitable for both beginners and intermediate digital camera users.
The flash on the Kodak DX 7440 is effective out to about 10 feet. This is very average performance for most consumer digital cameras. The flash range can be extended by using the flash compensation feauture on the kodak DX-7440 or by employing an additional slave flash.
Outdoor digital photos produced by the Kodak DX-7440 are excellent. The Kodak Color Science chip which is a component part of this digital camera insures pleasantly realistic blue skies and white clouds. The focusing mechanism on the Kodak DX-7440 is very effective and very sharp and very clear digital photos are characteristic of this digital camera
The Macro or Close-up digital photos produced by the Kodak DX-7440 are also excellent. The digital camera is very effective in taking close-up digital photos of items that might be sold on www.ebay.com or similiar auction websites.
With the ease of use, the simple menus, and excellent digital photo output, the Kodak DX-7440 is an excellent buy at about $260 to $270 on the internet. Clearly the Kodak DX-7440 represents a new era for Kodak and it is an excellent digital camera that I would buy again without hestitation.

Strengths: Easy to use, very quick, excellent clarity and color in picutures.
Weaknesses: Kodak should really include the higher capacity battery they make for the DX7440 in the box.
Summary: Excellent camera! The buttons are well laid out and easy to use. I didn't even have to read the manual because everything on the DX7440 just makes sense. I know why they call it the EasyShare now.
This camera is quick! When you turn it on, it is ready to go in just a few seconds. It focuses quickly too. But what I really liked that when you press the button to snap a shot, it does so almost instantaneously. My old digital camera would take a second or two, which can cost you a good photo in an action shot.
Color was very crisp and vivid with the shots taken. The 4 megapixel quality yields extremely nice shots. They look clear instead of grainy (as some cameras do when they over-compress the jpegs) The AF assist on the DX7440 makes the camera intuitive on adjusting for different lighting situations.
I was very impressed with the movie capabilities of the digital camera. 640x480 at 15fps is may not be the absolute best out there, but it certainly does the job. I was worried that 15fps would make the videos shaky, but you don't really notice. Honestly, if you expect anything better than this, you should be buying yourself a digital camcorder. The video compression used gives a generous amount of time for the space it uses.
I did my research before making this purchase, and I must say that I am very pleased with the DX7440. It delivers outstanding quality for a reasonable price.

Summary: I don't like to have to use a manual every time I take a picture, this camera makes picture taking so so so EASY! Gorgeous pictures, easy downloading with the USB cable and kodak software (included), brilliant color! Rechargeable battery charges in 3 hrs or less. I've only used it for 4 days, but I can't put it down! The simplicity, along with the vibrant, crystal clear pictures makes this camera a gem to own!

Strengths: Extremely easy to use, long battery life, great zoom, fast focus, no red-eye, awesome customer service.
Weaknesses: Indoor flash photos are dark.
Summary: This is my second DX7440 camera. My first camera experienced white balance problems in outdoor conditions that were not in direct sunlight. Kodak very graciously replaced the whole camera with an amazing same day turn-around and priority return shipping. The customer service is top-notch from this American company... and the warranty is a full year unlike some of the foreign jobs (typically 90 days).
I have purchased the Delkin Devices KLIC5001 extended battery. This battery lasted a full 6 days of vacation and 300+ shots befor the low battery indicator came on. This was a tremendous improvement over my old Nikon Coolpix 3500.
The 4x zoom is a godsend and really is noticeable as compared to many cameras with a typical 3x zoom. Much more than a 4x however would require a tripod in most scenarios (in case you are considering the DX7490).
Both cameras have produced amazing pictures in full sunlight, but tend to produce slightly dark images in anything less than full-sun. I have used the software's 1-click enhance to correct this most of the time... but would prefer not to as that tends to increase artifacts.
The flash on this camera is amazing for it's lack of red-eye in photos. This is probably attributable to the diffuser-like lens on the flash.
I'm still very disappointed by the indoor flash pics of this camera... they tend to appear a bit washed-out on the subject and very dark on the surroundings. My old Nikon was much better in this respect... although the Nikon suffered extreme red-eye.
I'm so excited about the great AMERICAN customer service and ease of use that I'm going to keep using this camera and pray that I figure out a way to improve my indoor shots. I would love to hear feedback from other users about their indoor shots.
