Strengths: Blazing Fast
Weaknesses: Nothing yet.
Summary: Maybe I had high expectations for the Macbook but overall it is perfect. For the price, it is a steal. I was looking at the Thinkpad X60 and with the exact same specs, the Thinkpad costs over 2k. The Macbook cost me less than $1200 overall with the upgraded G.Skill 2GB RAM and Hitachi 160GB HD. I was expecting it to be a bit lighter but 5 lbs is good enough compared to my bulky 7.7 lb Sony Vaio PCG-FRV25. Connected to an external Samsung SyncMaster 931BW I can use it as a desktop. I love OSX, much better than Windows Vista/XP SP2/XP. I wonder why I never switched in the first place!

    5 Months
Strengths: display, keyboard, weight, OS, speed, webcam, bundled SW, onboard 802.11n
Weaknesses: onboard graphics chip
Summary: Display: Easily the clearest, most luminous and pleasing display I've ever seen on a laptop. It's not that mushy TFT stuff that makes dimples when you touch it; the surface is a hard, crystalline screen that places nothing between your eye and the image. As you can see, the quality of the image exceeds the beautiful TFT screen on my iMac desktop. I also have an outstanding Trinitron CRT for the Wintel machine, and it actually looks rather faded compared to the MacBook's display. Astonishing.

Keyboard: An ingenious piece of design. Again, I have to resort to superlatives: it's the most natural and comfortable keyboard I've touched on a laptop, and it beats most full-sized ergonomic boards. The spacing, location, and action of the keys has obviously been carefully thought out and rigorously tested. Apple design genius at its very best.

Processor speed: Intel Core Duo 2 heaven. It handles complex OS, graphical, and processing tasks with snappy aplomb. On my iMac PPC machine, just right-clicking a file to bring up a menu, or opening an application like Firefox or Word, would mean waiting through a delay of several seconds while the processor struggled with the request. On this machine, the spinning beach ball, bouncing dock icon, and winding wristwatch are very rare indeed. Some applications (see below) that have not made it into Universal Binary Land will strain the processor a bit, but this is a situation that can only improve with time and future development.

Two-finger scrolling: It's one of those "how-did-they-do-that" moments: you put one finger on the trackpad and the mouse arrow moves around as usual. You put another finger down and slide them left to right or up and down, and you're scrolling whatever window you're in, horizontally or vertically. Put down 3 or more fingers and the scrolling stops again. Very cool, and very useful.

Weight: The MacBook is barely over an inch thick and five pounds light. It's easy to carry around the house or inside a bag (I have a backpack-style bag for it, and recommend this type of sack for any portable).

For $1300, you get a mega-fast laptop with the iLife06 software suite bundled and the Mac webcam built into the screen, along with the PhotoBooth software for fun.

Now that CS3 is out, PS is now universal binary, which leaves just MS Office for Mac as the biggest animal still not in the UB Zoo yet. Reportedly, the MS Mac Unit has Office for Mac 2008 in beta testing now, and will have it released by yearend.

The video on the MacBook comes from an onboard Intel chip, which borrows RAM from the system memory to deliver graphics and video. It does it very well for ordinary applications like browsers, Quicktime files, Photoshop and iPhoto processing, and the like. But I suspect this is not a gamer's machine. For one thing, after playing a game with rapidly moving parts for a few minutes, the hard drive starts revving like a jet engine, and that's not a sound I prefer to hear coming out of a computer. That means the video chip has exhausted its supply of RAM and is hitting the swap file pretty hard. So if you're a rabid gamer, I have the following advice: (a) get a life; and (b) if (a) is not possible for you yet (I understand, I've been there), then pick up an Alienware box or, if you need a Mac, a MacBook Pro or one of their desktop machines, which have freestanding video cards with 128MB or 256MB of VRAM fueling them. Also, if you're a video professional (photographer or filmmaker), the MBP would be a better machine for you if you can afford the additional $700 or so.

But for what you get with the MacBook for a mere $1300, this machine is truly a bargain (and when's the last time you heard anyone say that about a Mac?).

Strengths: apple's product, great design. very cute and nice. With such a price, You cannot go wrong.
Weaknesses: a little heavy comparing with macbook pro.But pro is much expensive though
Summary: I've had this notebook for a few weeks now and I'm very satisfied with it. Key pros: large hard drive (80GB), good performance (Core 2 Duo at 2(GHz), Full Keyboard (dedicated page up/down, Home/End keys), excellent screen (for watching movies). However, if you would like to run windows on it using paralell software. I suggested a 2GB memory.(currently it loaed with 2X512Mb).Usually 2*1Gb memory cost around $200. So if you need that but has limited budget, I recommend the cheaper version of macbook(has 2*256mb inside). It costs $200 less than this one. So you can use the $200 to buy a 2GB memory.

Strengths: Extremely fast, bright and crisp screen. Clean looks with rear vents. Great Battery Life
Weaknesses: Closely spaced USB ports
Summary: Awesome computer that I would recommend to any one. I was turned to Apple by a college computer technician. And might I say he is definitely right about Apple computers. I had a HP laptop with a 1.7 Ghz Pentium Centrino. This computer blows it out of the water. I have edited videos, surfed the web, and chatting all at the same time with absolutely no hesitaiton. If you are planning on doing heavy video editing I would suggest the 2 GB Ram. I am upgrading to 1.5 GB this week, all that my budget would allow.

Magsafe power is ingenious on Apple's part, allowing for quick disconnecting, yet stays in well. The screen is unbeleivably bright and clear. The battery can last for around 4.5-5 hours, with medium brightness and Wi-fi. If you turn off the wifi and darken the screen the battery showed about 6.5 hours.

The bluetooth is great to use with a compatible cellular phone. The built in web cam is great clarity for the pixels. You can buy cameras with 1+ megapixels but for built in it is clear.

iLife software has multiple editing options and especially when editing pictures with iPhotos.

Everyone should buy this.

Strengths: Good battery life (~4 hours) Blazing Fast
Weaknesses: none whatsoever
Summary: After using several dozen notebooks over the last few years, including the Macbook's predecessor,an iBook, I've finally settle on what could be the best notebook I've ever owned. The macbook is a perfectly priced (though a lower price certainly wouldn't hurt) that combines both stylish form with awesome function. Battery life is quite good, as is wireless range. In addition I'm ble to boot every OS I want, be it Ubuntu, Vista, or OS X. A perfect solution for any college student!

3 Star ReviewHardware Problems
Strengths: A very nice computer
Weaknesses: Prone to hardware issues.
Summary: I have had this computer for about 4 months now and have been very satisfied with the computer itself. The included programs and built in condensor mic and camera are great. Also, working with bootcam

Strengths: Beautiful, personalized design, remote, nice media
Weaknesses: Not compatible with many softwares.
Summary: This is the first time I use a Mac operation system, I am still not used to it. It is quite different with Windows. However, it is so beautiful, and the operation platform always looks comfortable. I am already falling in love with it!
