Strengths: Beautiful picture good sound. Easy to change screen display from Normal to Wide Zoom and it remembers the last setting when it's turned off. Many features and plug ins on the back for VCR's & DVR's
Weaknesses: It is very heavy, 150 lbs and deep, but once it's in place...who cares??
Summary: This was the highest all around rated TV I found on Consumer Reports ratings from 12/2004 at this size for a wide screen. The picture quality is terrific. Flat panel conventional TV's such as this one are still the better buy if you have the space as opposed to the LCD's or Plasmas if you are looking for durability and high image quality from any angle at an affordable price.

Strengths: Great picture, hdmi input, 7 total video inputs, HD looks 3-D
Weaknesses: no pip, locks into full screen mode when fed a progressive signal.
Summary: My decision came down to this and a competing tv with pip and every showroom I went into the sony picture quality looked best. It would be nice to be able to change to any aspect at all times, which can not be done when inputing progressive. All things considered after owning this tv for awhile I am glad I decided on this model, and I am still amazed every time I turn it on at the quality of the HD picture this TV produces.

Strengths: Great picture and pricing is good for a tube TV with HD Ready. HDMI input is a big plus.
Weaknesses: Since it's a tube, heavier than most TVs.
Summary: I wanted a TV that was HD ready and within my budget. I would have loved an DLP or Plasma, but for the price the tube is just fine. With respect to tube TVs, this Sony beats out any other manufacturer in terms of picture quality. It is so great and with the H.D. I'm getting everything I can ask for in terms of clarity and durability.

Strengths: Pristine Picture. Vibrant colors. HDMI, 2x Component. Did I mention the picture is AMAZING??
Weaknesses: Heavy and awkward to carry. It weighs a ton - I say a little prayer every time I have to move it.
Summary: This tv is phenomenal. I considered Hitachi and Samsung, but decided to bite the bullet and buy the highest rated through Consumer Reports. I believe it was well worth it. I don't know how much better this tv is in comparison to the others, but I have absolutely no regrets. I have not seen a better picture. I am ashamed that I am now addicted to watching this tv. You literally do not want to take your eyes off of it.

DVDs look fantastic in progressive scan. I'm not 100% convinced that it makes SDTV look better. PS2 also looks great with component cables. I Can't wait for the new PS3 to come out with true HD (and HDMI output).

And yes, this is a heavy, awkward, top-heavy tv. Requires atleast 2 moderately built people to move with any kind of ease. 1 person is simply out of the question. Takes up quite a bit of space, but I have a feeling this tv will last longer than any LCD, Plasma or DLP.

Strengths: The best picture you can find for this product type (30" widescreen). HDMI input makes it more future-proof than other brands/models.
Weaknesses: Costlier than other brands. At least the $900 price point is $100 less than a couple of months back. Wish it had more component inputs. Weighs 150 lbs. (HEAVY!!!)
Summary: If you're looking to enter the world of HD, you should strongly consider Sony. It may cost a little more in the short run, but you won't regret having the best picture quality money can buy. The TV set looks stylish to boot. The only problem I have is that it only has 2 component inputs. The HDMI input is not currently useful to me, but I am sure I'll appreciate it in the future. It would have also been nice if Sony had included an picture aspect ratio equivalent to Toshiba's TheaterWide or Panorama.

Strengths: Astounding HD picture - I was totally blown away when I hooked up digital cable and watched my first baseball game in HD. Easy to use interface. Way cheaper than plasma.
Weaknesses: It's already been said - this sucker is heavy. If you can, hook up all of your components from the start - its just too weighty to keep dorking around with later.
Summary: I am a novice when it comes to the Video/Audio world of electronics. After a thousand hours of research trying to figure out the differences between CRT, plasma, LCD, rear projection, etc. I chose to go with this Sony CRT flat screen. Mostly because it was about 1/4 price of a plasma with a similiar quality screen. I am extremely happy with this decision! I am impressed with the sound quality from the TV speakers too.

I paid $819.06 from 6ave.com. This included no tax and shipping. I checked several large large B&M stores in the Bay Area and they were asking much higher. One store wanted $1399 + tax (which is ridiculous). I wouldn't pay that much for this TV - I would just fork over the extra for a plasma at that rate. But for $819 out the door - it's hard to beat.

I would suggest finding a good progressive scan DVD player with HDMI. This will pretty much ensure you get the highest quality signal into your TV when you watch movies - and you won't be disappointed.

Strengths: Outstanding picture quality. HDMI input.
Weaknesses: None other than overall size and weight.
Summary: Purchased this TV as a secondary TV to my 42" DLP rear projection Sony. Since I am placing the 30" Wega into a large entertainment center the size and weight were not a factor in my buying decision. The picture quality is outstanding and colors appear more natural than they do on my rear projection TV. Did a side by side comparison with this model to Sony's XBR and the picture quality was so close could not justify the extra cost of the XBR model.

Purchased this on line for $729. For the price/quality

ratio this Sony cann't be beat.

Strengths: clear picture, great color
Weaknesses: a little less strength in the black
Summary: I just went from a regular crt tv to this high def tv, so of course I am impressed. When I was at a retailer, I compared the various makers pictures and sony always stood out. For me, it was worth it to pay a little extra for the better picture.

Strengths: Incredible picture, full range of inputs, and lots of options.
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: Being a CRT, this thing can really handle action movies. DVDs are awesome, and this TV even makes some of my old VHS movies look good. There's really no way to describe the picture; you just need to go see it at Circuit City or another physical store.

We purchased it from Amazon.com for quite a bit less than anywhere else (partly because of the cash back on the Amazon VISA card). The only real negative about purchasing it through them was that the shipped just dropped the TV off in the driveway with a lame excuse that he was allowed to take it inside (we had paid for home delivery w/ carry off of packaging). And, one person CANNOT even hope to pick this up or drag it around. But, Amazon refunded the shipping costs as compensation for the inconvenience.
