Wild ARMs 4
Strengths: New and enjoyable battle system, challenging puzzles, can take save data from Wild ARMs Alter Code: F
Weaknesses: Music is not as memorable as previous installments, no world map, lackluster story and characters
Summary: I can give Wild ARMs 4 with the credit of trying to move the series forward and experimenting with something new. Unfortunately, Wild ARMs 4 falls a bit short in many of these departments.
The greatest change is the new HEX battle system. It gives the series a much needed upgrade from the standard turn-based battles. The new battle system allows for a greater degree of strategy that was lacking in some of the previous installments.
Michiko Naruke is no longer the sole composer on the game soundtrack and it shows. While the vocal music is still wonderful, much of the music from the game just isn't very memorable.
There are a lot of other changes that Wild ARMs 4 has made for the worse. The world map has been eliminated, so much of the exploratory feelings of the previous 2 games is gone. The storyline and characters just have much appeal. The wild west setting has been replaced with a more sci-fi one. This would have been fine if it hadn't drifted so far from the game's roots.
While the game is not my favorite in the series, and despite its flaws, it was still enjoyable to play. As a fan of the Wild ARMs series (even Wild ARMs 3) 4 just didn't seem to fit as well as it could have.
