Strengths: LIGHT, long battery life, nice screen, built in sprint wireless, and many more
Weaknesses: solo processor, annoying fan, and loading with unneeded crap.
Summary: I upgraded to this one from an older vaio that weighed 5+ lbs.

Oh, what a difference, the screen in really thin, big enough for enjoying DVDs, mine came with a 60 day office trial which came handy before my trip. I got it for $1699 + tax, which is the lowest I found online.

The battery life on this baby is amazing, it gave me a good 7 hours! I know it can do more.

Highly recommended.

Strengths: Ultra portable, great battery life.
Weaknesses: Not for multitasking.
Summary: I have the vaio TX-850p which has very similar specs for around 4-5 months now. I paid $1600 for it. Its a great little notebook with a carbon fibre lid. I have always been partial to thinkpads but there is no other notebook under 3 lbs with a built in optical drive and 7 hr battery life. Dunno why ppl keep harping on the core solo. Its plenty fast for normal everyday stuff. I triple boot, mandriva, winxp and vista and even vista seems to run fine on it (ok a little sluggish with the speed step and power saving mode )

This is an ultra-portable and not supposed to be running quake 4 or maya 3d. BTW the core solo is the ULV version which is great for battery life. I normally get between 6-7 hrs on a single charge with wireless and without any power savings mode. If you are a mobile professional this is the perfect laptop. THe screen is amazing (one of the best I have seen.

However, IMO the resolution (1366x768) is too high for the small screen and requires using higer dpi for normal reading.

One of the drawbacks of the X series is lack of optical drive and also low resolution (only 1024x768) on a 12" screen at least when I got it. I believe they have a 1440x1050 version now. You need an extra long life battery which sticks out and increases the travel weight to get anywhere close to 7 hrs of battery life.

This laptop is obviously not for everyone. In my case, I am coming from a T-23 and a Z-60t and I rarely use the other laptops anymore.

Strengths: Portability Weight Battery Life Sexy Run the wireless gamut
Weaknesses: Fragile Sony bloatware Lack of built-in microphone
Summary: I have been waiting for this laptop to come down in price for a long time. Since I lost my TR3AP about 2 years ago I've been wanting to get a TX series but have been on the fence because of the lack of a built-in webcam. When I saw it for less than 1700 I jumped on it and put my Asus G1 on ebay almost instantly. The battery life is killer on this machine. This is not for the power user, but rather for the mobile worker. That is pretty obvious. I do all my image editing and music making on my desktop. This obviously wasn't made for that. I really wanted the HP TX1100's to have a better battery life. That would have been another contender to my TXN. The Asus U1F also looked good but battery life also wasn't too hot. I love this little machine. It does everything I need it to do perfectly in one of the sexiest little packages available.

Strengths: Weight - only 2.8 lbs Screen - beautiful Battery life - used it all day long without plugging it in!
Weaknesses: Speed - fine for everyday tasks but slow processor
Summary: This laptop is for those who need/want ultra portability. It has fantastic battery life and is great for the mobile professional. The laptop lacks the newest processor but is still able to handle Vista when it is ready. There are still some kinks with it so I would not recommend vista for this plus it will likely decrease the battery life.

Overall - if you can afford it and need a small laptop, look no further. If you need a fast computer, look elsewhere.
