Sceptre X22WG
Strengths: Great display, contrast, clarity. Higher specs than others in its class but see Comments below...
Weaknesses: Stand is not adjustable but for most is not a big deal. Stand is not as flimsy as some claim.
Summary: Mass reports of DVI/HDMI ports failing shortly after install. Sceptre customer service is not very good. They will not reimburse warranty shipping to get the unit returned to them (BIG problem in this whole industry) nor will they expidite return shipment after repair within the warranty period. Although this unit has great specs, the long term quality does not seem to be there. I would not recommend dealing with Sceptre at all.

Strengths: Big bright screen, thin matte-finish black bezel, 3 graphic inputs: DVI, VGA and HDMI, will display resolution up to 1080i/p, built-in power (no AC adapter needed), two USB ports, VESA standard mount.
Weaknesses: Minimal stand and cheap built-in speakers (like nearly every other 22" monitor at this price point).
Summary: This monitor is sweet! Bright colors, 5ms response, and no ghosting - it's a gamer's paradise. The three inputs let me connect my computer, XBox 360 and PS3 all at the same time and I can switch between them on the fly by pressing the unit's "source" button! There's built-in headphone jacks and two USB ports, too. I replaced the stand with a VESA-standard pivoting unit by Ergotron - now it rocks!

Strengths: Bright, crisp text and no ghosting. VGA, DVI, and HDMI inputs, all selectable.
Weaknesses: The blue LED on the front.
Summary: The blue LED power light on the front drove me nuts; I had to put a piece of electrical tape over it. I read reviews on other sites that had the stand as one of the cons, so I ordered an arm mount ahead of time. As it turns out, I don't have any complaints about the stand that came with it. It has no height adjustment, but I knew that when I ordered it. This thing is bright, had to turn down the contrast and lamp level. I would definitely buy this again.

Nice but not exceptional
Strengths: Large screen. HDMI and DVI inputs. USB and headphone jacks. Sleek look.
Weaknesses: Backlight bleed near bottom of screen, flimsy stand
Summary: Apparently there is only one 22" LCD panel supplier so far, so there isn't a huge difference between various brands/models. The Sceptre, however, is somewhat unusual in that it has an HDMI as well as a DVI input. That said, the backlight bleed issue noted above can be irritating in dim light. Also it's worth noting that compared to a 19" 4x3 aspect ratio monitor, a 22" widescreen monitor is wider but does not add any height.

Garbage monitor from a garbage retailer
Strengths: price
Weaknesses: quality
Summary: If you want to buy a cheap monitor do it in person or somepleace you can return a defective monitor for a full refund. Newegg where I made the mistake of buying mine requires you to either send it to the factory and wait 6-8 weeks for a replacement or pay to ship it to newegg so they can ship you another one of these broken monitors.(I've done this 3 times, that's +$70 in shipping alone and I still havn't see one of these monitors that works.) the only other option newegg leaves you is to return the defective product for a refund -15% restocking fee + all the shipping costs which is around $80 if you buy from newegg.com. I have been thru 3 of these paticular monitors none of them have worked. all had problems rangeing from dead pixels to dead ports. newegg's scam with chargeing 15% on returning defective products will eat you alive on this monitor.

STAY AWAY!!!!!!!
Strengths: Looks great when it works.
Weaknesses: DVI and HDMI stops working after 2 weeks to a month. Sceptre has Terrible! customer support. Although newegg customer support has been good with RMA's
Summary: I have been through 3 of these monitors. Waiting for #4 to arrive. Only been 5 months since purchase... HMMM. Stay away! It starts with lines on boot, flickering randomly, screen shifting to left, then unable to get a signal from computer. After DVI and HDMI death only VGA works. Tried new DVI cable and did not make a difference. Wonder if it is a timing problem with the way the screen shifts before it dies. Also the speakers started popping when the power was off. I don't even have the speakers connected to the computer. After 3 RMA's to newegg I called Sceptre tech support on 03-19-07 and asked what is going on with this model of monitor? They stated they were unaware that this model had any problem at all. I asked if they read newegg reviews or any other public reviews and they said they don't look at public reviews of their product. I asked if the public who experience DVI problems petitioned or mailed to them or spoke up if they would fix the problem and tech said "what good would that do".... save your self head ache and stay away from this monitor. Severe problems that they don't want to recall. And the company disregards public opinion. Ummm the public is what butters their bread they should be listening. Are you listening?

Strengths: HDCP compatible, HDMI, DVI-D, capable of connectin three different sources to the screen and toggling between devices via source button on back. Nice contrast, vibrant colors, fantastic quality!
Weaknesses: The stand is flimsy and has very little articulation. Really, it doesn't have many weaknesses other than the stand and some slight backlight bleeding.
Summary: This is a terrific purchase! Quality to dollar ratio is phenomenal! I originally was waiting for a 24" LCD but couldn't pass up on this monitor for it's price! Fantastic features (HDMI on a 22"!)and great quality (other than the stand)!

Was great fo 33 days
Strengths: Picture, size, controls (I liked anyway)
Weaknesses: died in 33 days
Summary: I bought this unit from Newegg and was very happy but it now fails to work. Since it was past the 30 day exchange policy by 3 days they would not help me. The problem is that I get a no signal message no matter what PC I connect it to (keep in mind all the PCs work with LCD other monitors). I even tried the VGA wit the same results

Strengths: HDMI input (support two DVI connection), two USB port. Crisp picture.
Weaknesses: None for me
Summary: I was looking for a 22 inches LCD to connect to a desktop and a notebook, and it seems this is the only 22 LCD by now that can support two DVI connections at the same time, all others have only one DVI and one VGA port. I use a DVI to HDMI cable to link with my notebook, and the image is as good as using DVI cable, and you can switch between two computers by simply pressing a button. The USB port is convenient for putting a web camera on top of it. For the image, it's crisp and clear, while the default color seems to be a little unbalanced, but I didn't bother to adjust it by now. The stand is OK for me, though I do plan to buy a better one. As some other reviews have said, the included DVI cable is a cheap one, removing all unused pins for computer connection, so I used my spare cable. And others have reported DVI port would die in a few weeks, but I guess the chance is around or less than 1 in 50, based on all the reviews I have seen. In all, it's a awesome LCD if all parts works fine. I do recommend it for a 22 LCD purchase.

Spectre X22wg LCS Monitor
Strengths: VGA, DVI and HDMI connectors, large wide screen and a very reasonable price
Weaknesses: Very poor speakers, Had USB ports but no cable was included, VGA display was terrible, menu button at odd place, no brightness control, self adjustment poor
Summary: When I first got the monitor I plugged in with just the VGA to my onboard monitor output. The display looked very crappy and blurry inspite of all the adjustments I tried to do. The screen was also very bright but there does not seem to be a brightness control.
Then I had upgraded the video card (ATI X1900) and used the DVI connector. This worked very well and the display is sharp now.
At first the dislay did not auto adjust to it's natual resolution (1650x1500 something), and I manually adjusted the display after reading the manual.
The controls for the display menu are behind the monitor which makes it very inconvenient and error prone to try to go through the adjustments.
The monitors includes speaker but the output is just terrible. Will surely need amplified separate speakers. My previous cheap HP 19" monitor had better speakers.
Bought the monitor as it had good user reviews on various websites. Till now with the ATI card the output looks good and I got a good deal at newegg making this acceptable. But I am still not too happy with the adjustments.

Do you feel lucky?
Strengths: DVI looks good while it lasts
Weaknesses: Unreliable DVI, junky DVI cable included, cheap stand, expensive to continuously RMA these things
Summary: Save your box! You'll be shipping this back to Sceptre in a few weeks or less.
I RMA'd one directly to NewEgg within 30 days of purchase, but after 30 days, I had to send the 1st replacement to Sceptre. Now my 2nd replacement (3rd monitor) just crapped out in DVI mode (I'm using the very fuzzy/blurry VGA mode now to type this review).
I guess I'll send it back, but after my 1-year warranty runs out in a few months I guess I'll have to buy a new monitor when (not "if") the 3rd replacement dies.

Don't Buy This!!
Strengths: Cheap, Specs look great on paper, Works great for a little while
Weaknesses: Mass failures reported, Terrible Product Services & Support, see comments
Summary: So I had this for about 5 months, and the DVI port failed abruptly one day. I find out that many people have reported this.
Tech Support was very unhelpful. Will not send immediate replacement like most reputable manufacturers. Will not reimburse for return merchandise under warranty. Will make you wait for repairs for unspecified period of tiem. My e-mails were ignored and was put on hold for 20+ min on the phone with no help. Did I mention their out-of-box documentation appears to be written by the same people who translate street signs in China?
Luckily, I was able to take it back to my merchant and get my money back.
Just my experience I suppose...

Decent, but you get what you pay for
Strengths: Large screen, fast refresh rate, bright, cheap
Weaknesses: Very bad back light bleeding, can't adjust stand, poor VGA quality
Summary: I got this monitor through Costco for a great price (around 300 dollars). So, I am happy I got it for this price. However, had it been any more than that, I would have stayed clear.
With DVI, the picture quality looks pretty decent. I have enjoyed the monitor with gaming (all different kinds, first person shooters, strategy, etc.).
With VGA, it is terrible. Period. I tried different cables I had as well, and just plain terrible.
I purchased a Neoflex by Ergotron, and that has been great, as the original stand is nearly useless.
I have not used the speakers or USB at this point.
I had a couple of stuck pixels, but only could be seen when running stuck pixel tests, and has not effected anything else.
Bottom line. . .If you want a large, widescreen LCD, you will not probably do better for this price point. That being said, had I spent another hundred dollars on a different monitor, I would probably be happier.
