Strengths: Plenty of power. Included setup mic. Looks and sounds like a quality unit.
Weaknesses: Fine tuning your settings. Remote.
Summary: 2005-07-06 16:08:20 After looking at some similarly priced Yamaha receivers, I went into an electronics store to preview. The Denon 2805 wasn't in my plans, but it impressed me so much that I decided to go with it instead. The music sounded much more "together" with the Denon vs the other receivers I previewed.

When my unit arrived, I plugged it in (easy, there are tons of connections), and pulled out the included setup mic. The 2805 gives you the mic with the unit, while if you order a 3805, it's not included. Go figure. IThe receiver quickly calibrated itself with my speakers, and with a few modifications (setting my center speaker to small instead of large), I'm very happy with it.

The downsides to this unit are that it's big and heavy (if you can call that a downside, it's a sign of quality to me), and the tweaking of settings. It seems to me this receiver would be best for someone who can afford quality, but doesn't want to worry about the small details involved with setup. The remote leaves something to be desired, but a universal remote would take care of those problems.

Overall, I'm very happy with this receiver and would recommend it to anyone that wants quality and simplicity in general setup. Always listen to them at the store so you can hear for yourself, everyone's different!

Strengths: Made in Japan, Quality construction, Lots of power, Auto setup feature.
Weaknesses: Difficult to understand the manual.
Summary: 2005-08-09 14:57:03 I have been looking for a receiver for my Bose AM15 speakers for a long time. After testing yamaha HTR5890, Onkyo TXSR702, I bought the Denon AVR 2805 mainly because of the auto setup feature, the power and output audio quality.

After hooking up the receiver to my speakers, I had to read the manual couple of times to figure out the settings and procedure to start the auto setup. Once I had figured it out it was an easy process.

I played my favourite DVD and CD's, they sound exceptionally great. I would recommend this receiver to anyone who is looking for a inexpensive but high quality receiver.

2 Star ReviewOK if your stuck with it
Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: Technically, this maybe a fine product, but, like many Japanese products, there's no human engineering. When I first opened the box, it was a shock, and it didn't get any better for three or four days, reading and rereading the manual, calling the vendor who offers no tech support, abd has no return provision. I was feeling like a $600 nightmare was upon me. Gradually I came to terms with the connections, even supplying my own batteries, which, according to the packing list, should have been included, and little by little got the beast tamed.

With all the features and sophystications, it seems the TUNER was an afterthought. This bothers me a lot, since FM is our most frequent source choice. Good luck with the remote control for setting up the Presets. Once you finally get it done, it's still a challenge to tune in to any specific one of your preset stations. This is ok by me, but woe to my house guests, and even my (fairly competent) spouse. On top of that, this unit easily overheats, and has a most sensitive overload protection circuit, and lo and behold, too much volume, or too many speakers, and it simply cuts out and dies without warning. You can go crazy trying to diagnose the problem or get it started again. On top of that, I have yet to get Zone 2, the remote room (the .1 part of the 7.1)to give out an acceptable audio signal. All in all, I can make do, since my vendor leaves me no choice, but it is far from the ideal receiver I had hoped for.
