Beaten by speaker wires
Strengths: It's nice looking
Decent price
Weaknesses: Poor reception
Summary: My stereo pretty much requires an antenna to get any sort of reception. I couldn't find my regular antenna wires that came with it, so I went out and bought this from BestBuy thinking that a powered FM antenna must be better than those simple wires. Man, was I wrong. I hooked it all up -- power plug and separate am/fm wires -- turned on my stereo and the reception was only slightly better than nothing. Indiscernible stations throughout. I was able to get better reception if I held the tower around 6-8 feet off of the floor. On a whim, I unplugged the powered antenna and plugged a 4-foot piece of spare speaker wire. I immediately got better reception than with the Terk tower. Once I raised the wires to around 3-feet above my stereo, the reception was perfect. Needless to say, I'm on my way now to get my money back for this miserable equipment. I'm sure results will vary depending on your area, but I think the lesson here is to try one of the much cheaper, passive antennae first.
